Lovely song! It's great to get more from Oddeye.
I love it. Their voices are allowed to carry the song, which was a wise choice. The lack of drums and the subtle shift between choruses and verses further emphasize the lovely vocals. I'm impressed by the video, as well. The slow, gentle scenes compliment the music nicely. Their use of CL's vulnerability was effective (although I'm told that it's very similar to Rihanna? I don't actually know). I'm so ready for a Minzy solo. That girl has so much talent!
I miss 2NE1ās bravado. We used to get the occasional āGo Away,ā āCanāt Nobody,ā āI Am The Best,ā or āHate You.ā
The last 4 singles: āI Love You,ā āFalling In Love,ā āDo You Love Me,ā and āMissing You.ā
While Iām very excited for their comeback, I sure do wish theyād give us something fierce again!
[MV] T.O.P- Doom Dada
Blerg! I love this! T.O.P knocked it out of the park! While I havenāt time to expound on length, hereās my initial thoughts.
The video itself blew me away. The black-and-white classic anthropological aesthetic is brilliantly executed. The 2001: A Space Odyssey homage tickled me pink! The motorcycle antics are fun, and the skeletal movement section is hypnotically edited.
The song capitalizes on T.O.Pās strengths. His deep, strong delivery punctuates the bass-laden minimalist rhythm, while his tempo shifts drive the song forward, pulling the beat along for the ride.
Itās been a while since Iāve babbled about a video at all, but this one demanded a bit of my attention. Bravo, T.O.P!
Beyond Hallyu will no longer be linking to articles from allkpop either on our website or on our social networking profiles.
As it now appears that allkpop themselves were the originating source for the photos of Ailee they are circulating we cannot condone this behaviour. Even Korean media...
You have my total support. Since Allkpop cares more for page-views than ethical behavior, this is a good way to show them our disapproval. I have no problem taking my clicks elsewhere.
MY KPOP DEBUTTTTTTTTTTT. 15 HOURS OF FILMING TILL 5AM!!! .05 SECONDS OF FAAAAAAMMEEE!!! KPOP EDITING!!! DONāT BLINK!!!! ITāS OK!!!! ONE OF MY BIGGEST DREAMS COME TRUE! Tyler the Creator shielding Girls Generation member Tiffanyās ears so she canāt hear the haters
After a couple of days with the album, "I Like" has pulled ahead as my favorite track on Chemistry. Just barely, though! All the tracks are top-notch.
Attention- Trouble MakerĀ
After nearly 2 years since Trouble Maker (song) was released, we finally have a Trouble Maker comeback and man, I thought they wouldnāt be able to top Trouble Maker but Chemistry is even better. Besides āNowā the song that was released with an MV, Attention is really awesome. Once again, if you have free time or are curious, listen to this whole album. I can almost promise you wonāt regret it.Ā
Agreed! I'm impressed with every track on Chemistry.
[MV]Ā T.A.P: Oh! Boy (feat. GO:ON & Tahiti) (via CJENMUSIC)
The purple Warning Robot has hypnotized me. What a fun song this is! The bridge and chorus have been on a loop in my head for days. While I think the verses are weak in comparison, I still like this a bunch. Also of note, this video may overtake 2NE1's "I Love You" for Most Hilariously Off Lip Synching.
Itās been a while, and I wanted to touch base with all my Tumblies. Iām not going to catch up on video reviews at this point, but Iāll babble a bit about what Iāve enjoyed recently in Kpop.
Firstly and foremostly: IU! Iāve been a fan since I discovered her, and I think Modern Times is almost as good as Last Fantasy. Her evolution as an artist continues to feel natural; she (and her company, no doubt) have built a style that feels right. This jazzy genre-hopping album pushes her forward in a way that is inimitably IU, and also succeeds in establishing her as a mature artist.Ā Yet while I love Modern Times, the pacing of it vexes me; I feel like the upbeat numbers are front-loaded in the track list, which makes the latter half feel a bit deflated.
Secondively! Kahi! Her second mini-album is fantastic. I was ambivalent towards her solo debut, but this one works incredibly well. āģģģ ģøź³ā is a rocking track. The biggest success of Who Are You, though, is the ballad. I donāt often like ballads. The closing track āSlowā is just beautiful, though. Itās been dominating my music list for the last few days.
Thirdiculously, Block B! āVery Goodā makes for such a fun video. It hearkens back to what I originally enjoyed about Block B. Hereās to hoping that one day, theyāll make their dreams come true and become real-life criminals.
Iām wavering on T-araās latest. āNumber 9ā is a decent song, but āBecause I Knowā bores me to tears. The mini-album itself is good enough, but I havenāt spent much time with it.
I wish I could dance like SHINee.
Iām hoping I can pop back in here again soon. Hopefully Nine Muses will give me a reason.

As a compilation of Nine Muses' work to date, this is pretty impressive. The mash-up works as a track in and of itself, which is hard to pull off. I'm excited for what they'll do next. It'll be hard for them to top "Wild," but I'll go ahead and get my hopes up. I know... I shouldn't. But sometimes I just can't help myself.
Hi guys! I know this isnāt kpop related but I really need to get this out there and I thought maybe the kpop fandom could help me out! I recently have been accepted to get my BFA at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Hollywood Los Angeles! but I donāt have enough money to go :( So I started a fundraiser! Any thing, literally anything will help. Here are some links to my kpop auditions and my acting reel, just to show some of what I can do!

[OP-ED] The War on āCuteā
By Mod Myshayla
You have every right to not like a group, but I canāt help but feel calling a girl group ācuteā and using this one descriptive word as a way to dismiss them entirely is a real popular, cop-out that makes it so people donāt have to clearly evaluate why they donāt like a girl group.
āI just donāt like girl groups a lot, theyāre so overly cute. I like boy groups more.ā
I wonder if most of the people that say this have ever given most girl groups a chance, multiple chances. I try to give all groups multiple chances because I know different group eras produce different sounds so even though I may not like recent music releases a groupās had, I may like something theyāve done in the past or vice versa.
And it must be tiring for the women in these groups to know they work so hard just to be dismissed so easily because they may have worn skirts a few times or done an aegyo face. That other females, people that should understand them the most, refuse to even acknowledge them because of this. That 9/10 times theyāll be tossed to the side for a boy group thatās been around for half as long and is filled with more visuals than members with contributing musical talents.
Also, I see plenty of people fawn over boys in their cute eras or just generally when boys are being cute. A new picture of a male idol will show up and people will comment āaw so cute~ heās so cute!ā But I thought cute was gross? I thought it was bad? Hmm, maybe you just meant the feminine, pastel colors and bows and whatnot that obviously should determine whether or not a group is any good.
I think itās about time we look past costumes and start seeing ācuteā girl groups for what they are, individual girls who have always been and will always be more than just ācuteā, hardworking women with dreams and aspirations and hobbies, women that may or may not like the color pink but even if they do, shouldnāt be demonized for it. Most of all women that enjoy singing and dancing for themselves and for their fans.
Girl groups all start somewhere and they all end somewhere and to smear their progression and existence by erasing their work with a word like ācuteā is more than a bit harsh. We should work with these groups, not fight against them or tear them down or straight up abandon them for all the boy groups.
After all, most groups donāt have control over their concepts. They canāt help that they have to do what theyāre told and be how theyāre told to be. Especially when girls are seen inherently as cute or sexy, to begin with. Itās considered a girlās job to be cute by society. Whereas guys have always been considered human first, with actual personalities and characteristics. Girls seem to just be characteristics to other people, not humans.
Male kpop idols have cute moments all the time and are still given attention and support but if a girl has just a few cute moments, she seems to be immediately categorized as annoying or aggravating, sheās no longer given any consideration.
You canāt tell everything about a group through videos and pictures, alone. You should look up members and lyrics, know that the song you thought was too cute or overly pop is a meaningful story about pain and relatable circumstances about growing up. You should participate in getting to know the female idols just as much as you know the male ones before you say you donāt like them at all.
And itās much easier to promote girl groups as cute because most kpop is aimed at younger people and a lot of girls in their teens want to be cute, they want to own cute things and experience cute things and have cute relationships. In Korea, a lot of that is hyped up. Thatās why thereās all the matching couple stuff and people get excited about simple skinship. You may find it dumb but to others, itās a big deal.
These girl groups donāt have much of a choice because most of them go from cute concept to sexy concept. A lot of the female idols are first of all, picked because of their looks and then given only roles that show off their looks. And when a girl group does have a somewhat ātoughā looking image, people still donāt seem to be completely satisfied.
When Global Icon debuted, for example, people started insulting them right away, saying they werenāt truly tomboys because they wore makeup or that their debut song just sucked in general (after they only listened to it once). People love coming up with excuses not to like girl groups, itās like a contest to see who can like which girl group the least without knowing anything about them.
It reminds me of girls in school that would say āugh girls cause so much drama, thatās why I like boys better. Thatās why I like being friends with boys more.ā Thereās a lot of subtle misogyny in kpop that isnāt cute at all.
Overall, I think itās ironic that people will complain about girl groups as if these same groups donāt know that a lot of people donāt like them. They know. They know every move they make is given three times as much criticism, in some cases theyāve straight forwardly come out and said being in aĀ boy group would be better.Ā No one is under more pressure than them, to full fill everyoneās wish while all these wishes contradict each other.
And there are girl groups that arenāt as ācuteā as theĀ stereotypicalĀ image of cute kpop girl groups is considered, you just have to work to find them. They do exist and when you find them, you have to support them so they can stick around and thrive and so companies know that girl groups can succeed without being ājust cuteā.
Please, stop being lazy with the criticisms though. Come clean, say you donāt like girl groups because they have girls in them. Donāt toss the word ācuteā out and think thatās enough for a group to deserve hate or think thatās enough for boy groups to deserve more attention.
Thank you for this article, BKF. Itās thought-provoking and I agree completely. Iām a guy, and my perspective on this seems a bit different from much of the fandom. Most of my favorite groups are female. I have biases of my own that generally focus my attention away from the guys, which isnāt strictly fair either, but Iām aware of it and try to keep an open mind.
Itās hard watching the girl groups get dismissed so often. I spend some time on EYK, and the demographic effect there is obvious and often overwhelming, leading to many of my favorite groups and soloists getting pushed aside.
For me, cuteness can be a wasted opportunity when itās the only apparent goal. Same thing for sexiness. These both make disappointing end goals. Both contribute to tone when transmitting a message, but as messages themselves, they ring hollow. I know that asking for depth in pop music is setting myself up for disappointment, but thereās no reason even the poppiest of tunes canāt communicate a perspective.
Cute is just one descriptor, and in my opinion, isnāt a significant one. I adore Girlās Day, and love their early work; not because itās cute, but because itās creative and well-executed. Likewise, I enjoy Girlās Dayās recent sexier work, and my only complaint is that itās not as imaginative as āOh My Godā and āTwinkle Twinkle.ā I also really like Crayon Pop. Itās easy to say theyāre cute, but more significantly, theyāre positive, well-choreographed, talented, and are obviously having a great time doing their thing.
I hope your article gets the attention it deserves.
[MV] A.T(ģģ“ķ°): Donāt be (feat.Geeks źø±ģ¤) (by LOENENT)
This is the good stuff! Live-action YouTube-player spoofing: what a creative idea! A.T is a newcomer, and this video is a promising start to her career.
So many clever details bring this concept to life. The guy slowly advancing across the bottom of the āscreen,ā keeping impressively realistic progress of the videoās play rate by painting a yellow stripe with a roller. The increasing view count, with it finally topping over-ambitiously at a hilarious 999,999,999. Various placards and props rotating in and out of frame, creating a narrative flow that suggests a video story more than telling one. The bubbly sound of the volume bar being maximized. The balloons, which use the shooting angle to fun effect.
The song itself is delightful! Fresh and upbeat, the track takes advantage of A.Tās amazing control over her high range. Iāve read that this single is being released in advance of her debut album, and Iām now fully on-board for that.
