Marijuana has had a bad stigma for over 60 years and despite the 37 medicinal, and 19 recreational states as well as Washington D.C., federally it is still a schedule 1 drug. Alongside each other; DEA, DCF, ICE, and even the IRS have ruined peoples lives over a naturally occuring medicine. A medicine that can cure and aid major mental illnesses and trauma, as well as save lives. An "illegal drug" that the government receives countless amounts of money and still has major seizes such as Connecticut, regardless of the fact they have over 37,000 cannabis business applications. According to @pewresearchcenter, 2/3 of u.s. adults think marjiuana should be legal for at least medicinal use and only 8% said it should not be legal, yet @Forbes reported that in 2019 federal cannabis arrests made up more than all violent crimes together. @NORML also confirmed the DEA's statistics of more than 5.5 million cultivation plants seized and over 6,600 arrests in 2021. @Lastprissonerproject states that "federal cannabis arrests jumped 25% YoY." And "the 6,606 arrests made in 2021 represent the highest number of federal arrests since 2011." The DEA 2021 budget being 3.28 billion dollars, this preservation of historical mistakes has to be left in the past and we need a stop to inflicting more struggle to common tax payers, entrepreneurs, families and community members.
