Latemegashipping and 10
Your Swamptile and 10) things you said that made me feel like shit?
Hmm. Now idk which one will be the one to do what, lol. (Non-canon, ho!)
One afternoon, a couple made their way back home from their children’s school. A tall green reptile skipped along and led the way, with a bulky blue mudfish that stomped after him.
“Whee, what a beautiful day!” The reptile swung from a street sign, denting it as he leapt from it and crashed onto a field of flowers. “Ahaha! Poor little flowers! Dead again!”
Groaning, the mudfish tried to walk past his partner, but was quickly followed. Eventually, they reached their house. Swampert bashed the door shut after Sceptile walked in, startling his husband.
“Swampy? What’s wrong?”
The adult mudfish pulled his hand over his face. “What’s wrong? What’s wrong? Where do I even begin?”
“Babe, you’re really starting to scare me.”
“Scare you?! That’s a trip!” Swampert slammed a fist into a wall. “Do you have any idea what it’s like to be with you?!”
“…What?”
“Sceptile, the entire day! First, you wake up at 4 in the morning and insist on having a screaming contest with someone that was practicing their singing voice!”
“In my defense,” argued Sceptile, “I thought they were trying to wake everyone else up.”
“You woke everyone up!” Swampert shook his head. “Next, you serve the kids Politoed legs for breakfast!”
“It’s their favorite!”
“It’s a dinner dish, and they don’t actually…!” Swampert inhaled deeply, and then slowly exhaled. “After that, we took the kids to school, same as always, but once we get there, what do you do?”
“Kiss the boys goodbye?”
“And then what happens?”
“Um…we watch them until they go in?”
“No, then I have to go pry that thug away from our Grovyle,” snapped Swampert, voice getting louder. “You sit there and watch!”
“What’s wrong with that youngster?” Sceptile scratched his head. “Grovyle found a nice boy to be with.”
“Scrafty only promotes all of his issues! The drinking, the smoking, the other drugs, the bad behavior, all of it!!”
“Grovyle isn’t like that,” murmured Sceptile, frowning.
“Open your eyes! Why do you think we’re always going to the school?”
“They just don’t understand–”
“No, they understand plenty! They understand what a disheveled mess our boy has become!” Swampert covered his eyes and shook his head. “Where did we even go wrong with that?”
“Grovyle’s fine–”
“He’s not fine!” Swampert glared at Sceptile, as the reptile shrank back into a corner. “Grovyle caused at least half a dozen issues at school today, before lunch! He got into a fight, again, and mouthed off at three teachers, and the vice principal!”
Sceptile leaned quietly in his hallway corner, watching Swampert pace back and forth. The mudfish shook his head and grumbled.
“And then, what do we do when they call us in? You rage in there, mouth off at the principal himself, and then act like a complete terror to whoever passes us in the halls, student or adult!” Swampert pounded a fist into his open hand. “It’s no wonder they tell us that Grovyle’s such a lost cause!”
“B-But he’s not! Grovyle’s a good boy, deep down–”
“Do you even pay attention to your sons’ lives?!” Swampert glared at Sceptile, who held back tears in his eyes. “What about poor Marshtomp?”
Abruptly, Sceptile sprang up from the corner, angered. “There is absolutely nothing wrong with my Marshy!”
“The boy may be smart–”
“Maybe nothing, Marshy is the smartest boy in that whole school!”
“He’s completely averted to romance and love at all costs!” Swampert placed his hands on his hips. “The boy gags at the mere mention of love and has panic attacks when people so much as hug or cuddle a little too intimately around him! Including us, his own parents, the ones that have raised him his whole life!” Swampert pounded his fists together. “That’s on us, there’s something undeniably wrong with him!”
“There is absolutely nothing wrong with my Marshy!” Sceptile emerged from the corner and glared at Swampert, who backed up. “The boy doesn’t need to understand romance, nor should he be subjected to having it instilled everywhere in his life! He’s free to like or not like whoever he wants, however he wants!”
“He’ll never fall in love! He’s completely averted to sex and romance!”
“What kind of a pervert needs him to have sex?!”
“He’s a teenager!”
“All the more reason he shouldn’t be having any so soon!” Sceptile folded his arms as Swampert’s face went blank. “For someone who’s busy lecturing me on everything wrong with our boys, you don’t seem to understand everything right that they do!” Tears streamed down the reptile’s eyes, while Swampert’s shoulders slumped down. “Do you think I don’t know that I’m not the perfect parent? I make mistakes. I…I get that. But not my boys, they’re golden. Marshtomp is an absolute prodigy, and if you’re so blinded by his asexual and aromatic lifestyles to notice that, then you’re just as much of a fool as I am!” Sceptile sniffled, but continued. “And Grovyle’s had a lot of hard choices to make, but he has a good heart, deep down. He’ll get better one day, you’ll see! The reason that it’s taking so long is that you don’t have enough faith in him…in either of them!”
Swampert shook his head and sighed, while Sceptile hastily brushed his eyes. For a moment, they sat quietly, reflecting over their words.
Do you have any idea what it’s like to be with you?!
You sit there and watch!
You rage in there…and act like a complete terror!
What kind of a pervert needs him to have sex?!
Then you’re just as much of a fool as I am!
You don’t have enough faith…in either of them!
Where did we even go wrong with that?
I make mistakes.
Silently, the two looked back at one another, vacantly staring at the images before them. Swampert stood, shoulders still slumped, with the door behind him, coat waiting on a rack. Sceptile, tail curled behind him, had a wall with a few pictures of the family together on it at his back.
The doorknob behind Swampert turned and Marshtomp slipped inside. He caught his parents fixated on each other, but noticed their body language was oddly…negative.
“Dad? Daddy?” Marshtomp dropped his bag. “Is…everything ok? Grovyle’s still in detention, but…”
Swampert patted his son’s head and hugged him slightly, and then retreated upstairs. Sceptile waited and then walked over, pulling his younger son into a tight hug. Though the young mudfish protested over the tears sliding down the reptile’s face, wondering if his father was ok, Sceptile refused to answer him.
Wow. Um…ouch.
For what it’s worth, I was going to have Swampert come back down happily with a family picture and end it with all three of them hugging, but I figured that might not happen, and I think Root likes the devastation feels, so I left it out.
Um…yay? That’s one ask-theoddfamilies craze that just…hmm. Feels.
AU in which Sneakpast and Latemega spouse-swap (you choose who dates who)
…Uh…I feel like this wasn’t meant for me, considering that Latemega isn’t much of a thing in my story, and neither couple is married.
The only user I know that paired those two as married couples would be rott-ing-root, who makes great art of the two pairings.
But, I hate to disappoint, and I’ve visited Root’s blog enough to sort of have a handle on their personalities via that canon, so…
Let’s give this a shot. (Prepare yourself, this will be a long post!)
Variation 1 (Echo’s Greninja/Swampert & Chesnaught/Sceptile):
“Swampert finished restocking a shelf of wooden toy swords when he heard the store’s door quickly open. He sighed and shook his head.
‘Greninja, take it easy on that door,’ he called.
‘Sorry!’ responded Greninja from the front.
The merchant waited as the ninja quickly came to the back. He tossed off his hood and glanced around the store.
‘Where’s Blaziken?’
‘Out for now, making a delivery.’
‘Ah, ok.’
Playfully, Greninja lifted a sword from the shelf and swung it around.
‘Take it easy,’ Swampert cautioned. ‘Don’t want that to break.’
‘Relax, love, I’ve got it,’ chuckled Greninja. ‘Just because I broke the door my first time here doesn’t mean I’ll break everything.’
‘You better not, or you’ll pay me back in dinner for the rest of the week,’ Swampert mockingly threatened.
‘Hmm…when you put it that way—’
‘Don’t even think about it.’
Abruptly, the door snapped open again. With an aggravated sigh, Swampert hurried to the front of the store, Greninja in tow. They made to the front to find a knight awkwardly lifting the door back up and closing the front of the shop.
‘Chesnaught?’
‘Oh! Greninja, hey!’
‘What are you doing here?’ The ninja tilted his head at the knight.
‘Well, my boyfriend ran in here—’
‘Boyfriend?’
‘Um…yeah, like you.’ Chesnaught pointed at Swampert, who slid his arm around Greninja. ‘Anyway, he ran excitedly in here, and I tried to catch the door, but, ah…I missed.’
‘Well then,’ Swampert cleared his throat. ‘One of you two will have to pay me back for that old door.’
‘Consider it payed, dearie!’
Swampert cringed as Chesnaught’s boyfriend popped up from the other side of the store. Chesnaught himself slid a hand over his face, exasperated.
‘Hi Sceptile,’ Greninja lightly waved.
‘Oh, well hello there, dear!’ Sceptile practically glided over to the three and wrapped himself tightly around Chesnaught’s arm. ‘When are we going to have that double date, hmm?’
‘Not in this lifetime,’ Swampert muttered under his breath.
‘Hmm?’
‘What do you need, Sceptile?’ Swampert sighed.
‘Well, I was looking for a nice children’s gift for a friend, but since I’m paying for the door, that can wait!’
He took out his coin bag and dumped the contents into Swampert’s hands.
‘That should cover it!’
‘But—’
‘No need to thank me, dear!’ Sceptile latched himself onto Chesnaught once again. ‘Now, my brave knight, shall we go to Eventide? I’m dying to have a walk all to ourselves!’
Chesnaught nervously laughed and led his boyfriend from the store. ‘See you back at the castle, Greninja!’ And with another door slam, the two left.
Gently, Greninja patted Swampert’s shoulder, as the merchant shook his head. ‘How does your friend put up with that?’
‘No idea.’
‘Well, at least you’ll be off to that Iceberg Empire without his over the top boyfriend.’ Swampert leaned against a shelf and shook his head.
‘We might be able to come back,’ Greninja soothed, and wrapped his arms around Swampert. ‘But, you don’t have to wait up for me, if someone better—’
‘Nah, no one else interesting really comes around here.’ Swampert kissed Greninja on the cheek. ‘I’ll sure miss you, though.’
‘Right back at you.’
Tightly, the two embraced each other. Closing up shop, Swampert took Greninja out from the shop and they walked off the streets of town.”
Variation 2 (Root’s Greninja/Swampert & Chesnaught/Sceptile):
“Greninja sat on Swampert’s lap, the two enjoying the breeze on the porch of their blue house. Two empty glasses of wine sat on the table while Swampert massaged Greninja’s back.
‘Mm, that’s good,’ giggled Greninja.
‘Glad you like it,’ chuckled Swampert.
‘Dad! Daddy!’
The two watched as their sons, Frogadier and Marshtomp, came running down the street and up to their house. They dropped off their backpacks once they reached the porch, and their parents got up.
‘Check it out!’ Marshtomp waved a paper from his bag. ‘I got a perfect score on my comprehensive test!’
‘Another one? That’s great son!’ congratulated Swampert.
‘Me too!’ Frogadier showed his off as well. ‘And we impressed the swimming coaches too! They said Marshtomp was a powerful swimmer and I moved swiftly and elegantly!’
‘Excellent! Swimming stars like your father and I!’ Greninja hugged both of the boys tightly. ‘Ah, I’m so proud of you two!’
‘Thanks Dad!’ the boys cheered simultaneously.
‘Why don’t you two go get changed and we’ll go out for dinner?’ suggested Swampert.
‘Really?’
‘Yeah! Let’s go!’
Grabbing their bags, the two raced inside while their fathers laughed.
‘They’re the best!’ sang Greninja. More snidely, he added, ‘They’re not at all disappointing like some children can be.’
‘Greninja, please.’
‘What? I didn’t say it in front of the kids this time.’
‘Still,’ Swampert shook his head. ‘The neighbors try really hard with their kids.’
‘Right,’ Greninja rolled his eyes. ‘They try hard to get them thrown in jail or killed!’
‘Greninja!’
Before Swampert could contribute to the argument, a screaming child came running up the street. The two watched him run to the green house next door, where their neighbors, Chesnaught and Sceptile, burst from their house.
‘Quilladin, what’s wrong?’ worriedly asked Chesnaught.
‘D-Dad!’ cried Quilladin. ‘Grovyle g-got detention again! The teacher f-found him with d-drugs in his b-bag!’
‘What?!’
‘And one of h-his friends tried to take m-me into the b-bathroom and…and…’
‘Sshh, it’s ok, Quill,’ Chesnaught cradled his son close to his chest.
‘Ugh! The nerve of that school!’ snapped Sceptile. ‘Honestly! Grovyle is a perfect little angel!’
Chesnaught gave Sceptile an alarmed look. ‘Sceptile—’
‘Ah-ah-ah!’
Heavily, Chesnaught sighed. ‘But Scepty—’
‘No, Naughty, I’m going to fight this!’ Sceptile stomped down his porch steps. ‘We’re not going to stand for Grovyle getting detention every day of the week! I’ll wring the principal’s neck if I have to!’
‘But—’
‘Nope! No buts!’ Sceptile pivoted back toward his husband and son. ‘Oh, and try not to mess with the new Pangoro fur rug. I just finished cleaning it.’
‘P-Pangoro rug?!’ yelped Quilladin.
‘Oh, don’t worry,’ soothed Sceptile. ‘It wasn’t the father of your classmate! It was that nasty pervert that kept flirting with your father.’
‘D…Did you k-kill him?’
‘Ooh, that would have been a good idea!’ Sceptile beamed broadly. ‘Next time, I’ll make sure to make his shave a little closer to the skin!’
Sceptile then skipped away from his horrified family. He happened to glance over at the Water type couple that nervously watched from their porch.
‘Hiya neighbors!’ Sceptile waved with his signature creepy smile, and then skipped happily down the block, towards the town high school.
Greninja folded his arms while Swampert nervously chuckled.
‘You were saying?’
‘Ok, maybe…maybe there’s a little—’
‘A little?’
‘All right, a lot of instability over there.’ Swampert shrugged. ‘Not every family can be perfect.’
‘That’s putting it lightly,’ Greninja watched as Chesnaught took his son back inside. ‘They may have greener grass on their lawn, but it’s certainly not greener on their side of the fence.’
Again, Swampert shrugged and kissed Greninja’s cheek. Their sons came back outside and the family of four set out for dinner.”
