Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. II - Ego, the Living Planet
With the smash success that was Guardians of the Galaxy, a sequel was inevitable. Following the titular heroes, GotG2 plunges them into a plot surrounding Peter Quill’s father, Ego, and his mysterious past and planet he presides on. Ego is a Celestial, a being with powers reminiscent of a god, and is actually a being with a body akin to that of a gigantic brain. Over time, he was able to control matter around him, and eventually formed a shell akin to that of a planet. Growing a smaller, human form, Ego set out to experience the universe, and eventually sired children.
The planet form of Ego was a complicated one- it had to be something constructed, somewhat intelligently, but still read as an environment rather than something fully constructed and artificial as not to give away Ego’s true nature. Heavy use of fractals, especially near Ego’s core, were key in this.
