Lauds of St. Barbara’s Feast
This is a wise Virgin, and one of the number of the prudent.
Psalms of Sunday, Scheme I
This is a wise Virgin, whom the Lord found watching.
This is she know knew not the transgression of the marriage bed, she shall bear fruit at the visitation of souls.
Come, O my chosen one, and I will establish my throne in you. Alleluia.
This one is beautiful amongst the daughters of Jerusalem.
Brothers: But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth. - 2 Cor 10:17-18
Jesu, the virgins' crown, do thou
Accept us as in prayer we bow;
Born of that Virgin, whom alone
The mother and the maid we own.
Amongst the lilies thou dost feed,
By virgin choirs accompanied;
With glory decked, the spotless brides
Whose bridal gifts thy love provides.
They, wheresoe'er thy footsteps bend,
With hymns and praises still attend:
In blessèd troops they follow thee,
With dance, and song, and melody.
We pray thee therefore to bestow
Upon our senses here below
Thy grace, that so we may endure
From taint of all corruption pure.
* All laud to God the Father be,
All praise, eternal Son, to thee;
All glory as is ever meet,
To God, the holy Paraclete.
Amen.
V. Grace is poured into thy lips.
R. Therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
Anti. Bened. The kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchantman seeking goodly pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Let us pray: We ask, O Lord, our God, that the glorious intercession of the blessed Barbara, Thy Virgin and Martyr, may protect us from every adversity of mind and body; so that through her intervention, we may merit before departing from this life to receive with sincere faith and a pure confession the most glorious Sacrament of the all-holy Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. through the same Jesus Christ Thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Commemoration of St. Peter Chrysologus:
Ant. Well done, thou good and faithful servant thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things, saith the Lord.
V. The Lord guided the just in right paths.
R. And showed him the kingdom of God.
Let us pray:
O God, who didst miraculously point out the glorious doctor Peter Chrysologus, and choose him to be a ruler and teacher of thy Church; grant, we beseech thee, that as on earth he taught us the way of life, so in heaven he may be our continual intercessor with thee. Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
