The Hilarious World of Alzheimers
“Have to start this with a small tale. Sitting with your Mum yesterday she asked me out of the blue when my birthday was. So I asked her when she thought it was. She thought for a moment and then said its sometime soon. Is it in March? (March is long gone). With a grin I said its tomorrow. She gave a little shriek and set off on her gammy leg (she fell over yesterday at the gas station) to buy a birthday card! She also asked how old I was and when I wouldn't tell her at first she guessed at 80 something (I’m 66). I did tell her. She didn't sleep well last night because her leg hurt but she did remember my birthday this morning (though not my age). The new pills seem to be helping a lot to make her calmer. Not a cure but helping her to enjoy life more. She is laughing again in that special way she has which is a joy to hear. Lights up the house. Got to get your Mum to the doctors so goodbye from your 80 something year old step dad in Pennsylvania.”
