Growing up, we had a laundry chute that had this little 50s retro circular metal flap to it. It s was cute and very convenient for getting laundry down to the basement from our narrow, 2-story home. The flap is significant because I vividly remember being about 5 or 6 and sitting in the doorway of my parent's room with my dad and younger sister and a laundry basket of just underwear. My dad was teaching me that if you aimed it just right and pulled back just enough, you could slingshot the underwear into the laundry shoot. My mom came home to me at full draw with a jock strap, because my and my sister's underwear didn't work, mid lining up a shot with my dad's help. She was askance, but I think she was also trying not to laugh.
In these troubling times, that memory offers itself up as a reminder to slowdown. Focus on the simple. Find the love. Remember.
