Laurabeth
Could you do Laurabeth for the Hittite names? Congrats on 1700 followers!
And from @thelostant:
What would Laura be in Hittite? At least the etymology is really obvious! :)
Putting these two together since they contain elements of each other.
The etymology of Laura may be obvious, but the word in itself is a lot more difficult to find. As you may have noticed so far, plant names are difficult to link to a specific plant - imagine if English was a dead language and you had to figure out what a petunia was based on context. That said, though the identification is far from certain, “laurel” has been given as a translation for alanzaš, a kind of tree. For this reason, I would very tentatively render Laura as Alanza.
For the Beth part of Laurabeth, I would pick the Hebrew “house”, pir in Hittite. Laurabeth, then, would be Alanzanapir.
Name requests are closed due to the high number of submissions - thanks to everyone for participating!
Since I voted... Do MFL AND Carmilla. Crossover is acceptable
Beth thought that her heart was going to beat out of her chest as she stepped into the coffee shop, Joan by her side just in case.
“Canonicallyace?!” a familiar voice called out from her left, and she turned to see the face that matched it, a face that she never thought that she would see away from a computer screen.
Her growing smile in reply was apparently enough of a confirmation, and before the ‘cookiemonster!’ had even left her lips, she found herself enveloped in Laura Hollis’ arms.
She was pretty sure that it was the best hug that she had ever had in her life.
