Conrad Fisher: admitting he loves Belly to everyone in 3.08 “Last Kiss.”
“Your Laura”.
And what about you, Conrad? When do you get to be happy?
Conrad + his future mother-in-law
The wedding is happening, Laurel. And if you aren't there, you will regret it for the rest of your life.
Steven’s speech to Conrad made me realize that J*remiah not only stole Belly from him, but indirectly alienated him from the whole family. He knew Conrad is still in love with Belly, he even made him say it, and instead of taking a step back and maybe let them sort it out in their own time, bc obviously it was still messy, he forcefully inserted himself between them, forcing Conrad to step back and avoid his family and friends, just so he doesn’t get his brother and the love of his life being all over each other shoved in his face.
Also Steven the phone works both ways… or you could have visited Conrad in Cali.
Both Jeremiah and Conrad drove to Laurel to try to get her to come to the wedding. Both had good intentions.
But there was a fundamental difference in the way they did it:
Jeremiah talked about how much Belly has done for him. Jeremiah tried to make the moment about Susannah. He talked about how Laurel always wanted him as a son-in-law. He didn't really talk about Belly. It was all about how Jeremiah felt, how Susannah would've felt, how he thought Laurel felt.
Conrad, on the other hand, did it for Belly. He talked about how Belly was sad and not eating. He talked about how Belly needs her mom. He talked about how he just wants Belly to be happy. He didn't mention what Belly can do for Jeremiah, he didn't mention how much Susannah would've wanted her there, he didn't mention how the wedding could make Laurel feel. He just talked about how Belly needed her mom.
It's hearing someone talk about how her baby needed her that gets through to her--not how other people feel or would've felt. That's the difference in the two speeches and why people are more impressed by Conrad's speech to Laurel.
underrated conrad moment is when he tells belly "you're gonna have to be a bit more specific I talk to laurel all the time" bc one, it's delivered so sassily, and two, I love how proudly he tells belly how close he is to her mom, it gave me major ("that's my future mother in law so ofc")
