Lauren Utter for Beautilation
~ America (10) ~
by Kelli McGuire
1. Anya
I think that Anya commands this photograph even though she’s in the back. Her face is simply radiant and I love how genuine her smile is. The way she’s grabbing her hat doesn’t seem forced and her pose is displaying the clothes well. The kicked back leg would be better if she had brought her knee in closer like Dominique did, but it doesn’t look bad to me. A well deserved FCO from both the judges and myself.
2. Dominique
This is a cute and fun photo of Dominique and I think it fits the vintage theme well. Her facial expression really pops without coming off fake like Whitney and Stacy-Ann. Her pose works great for selling the shoes as well as the rest of her outfit. The kicked back leg and over-the-shoulder glance were both good choices from Dominique.
3. Lauren
This is one of Lauren’s best shots and I was impressed by her rebound from her disastrous Fuerza Bruta performance. Her pose is excellent and natural (other than the stiff arm), plus her outfit is being displayed amazingly, making this one of the best fashion images of the week. Lauren’s face is pretty, but her eyes are lacking the intensity coming from her pose. It’s still a great photo though.
4. Katarzyna
While this is a lot better than the two girls below her, I can’t say I’m a fan of this shot of Katarzyna. Her pose is great for showing the clothes and I like how she looks like a snobby rich person. However, her head is tilted just a bit too far back and photographed rather square. Her expression isn’t really giving me anything either.
5. Whitney
Such an artificial shot of Whitney. I don’t believe her faked running pose or over-the-top pageant-y facial expression. The clothes don’t look good and she doesn’t either. There’s nothing modelesque about Whitney’s shot whatsoever and this was the start of a 3 week slide that should’ve led to her elimination.
6. Stacy-Ann
Stacy-Ann is such a disaster in this photo. The angle of her face is all wrong and the open mouth seems so fake and forced. Her body position isn’t bad, but it’s not enough to make up for her cheesy face. Stacy-Ann was the clear choice for elimination despite the circumstances. Her portfolio was the weakest of the remaining girls for me, and she was showing no signs of getting better. As much as I enjoyed Stacy-Ann as a person I can’t justify her staying any longer even with her high potential.
7. Fatima
I have no choice but to put Fatima last since she wasn’t in the photoshoot at all. However, I actually felt the judges made the right choice in keeping her over Stacy-Ann. Her overall portfolio was much stronger and she was improving with each passing week, plus she had tons of high fashion potential.
Sweet, quiet Lauren sure had one hell of a temper.
8. Lauren
My call-out average: 6.25
Panel call-out average: 4.5
Lauren definitely had some gems in her portfolio (Meat packing, jetsetters), but I found the majority of her photos to be overrated by both fans and the judges. She didn’t seem to know what she was doing on set most of the time and I think she lucked into a few of her shots. Lauren’s runway walk was super pitiful and easily one of the worst ever in the show’s history, and it only got minimally better as the cycle went on. Her commercial ability was utterly abysmal too, and her in person appearance wasn’t the most polished or modelesque (I can place some blame on those ratty extensions at least). Since her portfolio was super inconsistent and not strong enough to make up for her shortcomings this is where she lands in my ranking. I definitely despised Lauren’s personality during her stay. How she went from being a mumbling little weakling at panel to screaming her face off at other girls in the house was honestly a little jarring. She was such a wannabe edgelord and I think she made a massive fool of herself. Her nerves definitely got the best of her throughout the competition, especially at panel, and I believe it negatively affected her performance and behavior.
6. Lauren
This was horrible from the first moment where Lauren plodded up to the camera like a pouty toddler. She was a giant ball of nerves from being to end, looking and sounding upset for the entire duration of her take. Her line delivery was so hesitant as well. The blinking grimace at the end was the cap on her performance. Lauren’s elimination made total sense. Her portfolio was so hit-or-miss and she was the weakest girl left. I personally would’ve cut her a couple weeks sooner than Top 6.
8. Lauren
The worst shot of the week by a significant margin. Lauren’s face is so insanely dead and her eyes are rolling back strangely. A lot of it is due to the framing, but all of her limbs have been amputated and her torso seems disproportionately large compared to her stub legs. I would’ve eliminated Lauren here without question. She was inconsistent in photos and had more misses than hits, plus she was weak in literally every other area.
