The Experience of my Life? Really?
Written by: Tarique Plummer
What is it? The people, the social events, the freedom, the financial liberty, the privilege of shaping your decisions, or is it just the thought that you are now an adult, that makes the university experience unparalleled. The entire population exudes a certain amount of diversity which is second to no other. The languages spoken gives you that solemn feeling that you are on the global stage while at the same time, most are still within that local context. Bonding and relationships on a whole, acquire a new level of importance and somehow, within mere days of your university tenure, it soared into your top priorities. Life skill generation unconsciously becomes a natural by-product of what you do. This is the foundation of experiential learning. This is university.
Lectures are special. Think about it; a forum where you are asked to consume content you actually like. I say this is an honour. Assignments can be a little of a drag; but no pain, no gain right? Belonging is imperative and co-curricular clubs and associations happily give that feeling out as soon as you make that commitment to essentially, be a member. How can I forget the residence life experience? Truly, this aids significantly in shaping your first year. The things that you will do, the challenges you will face and the victories you will win, for sure contributes to the creation of you becoming that holistic individual.
I encourage you to choose a university which will value you more than a student number; a university which takes great pride in seeing you grow both as a student and a person instead of just the former; a university which endeavours to give you that balance instead of only putting emphasis on one category; and lastly, a university that epitomizes inspiring lives. Choose Laurier.
