Many cities run police services with some underfunded social services on the side. #kwawesome is better than some, but … this is the most recent info I could find.

(This is a little nuanced because locally we need to compare regional budget (responsible for police) and city and provincial budgets (libraries and schools respectively, just for example.))
. 
Defunding doesn’t mean getting rid of the police. It means reducing their funding AND their range of responsibilities, so that if you call about, say, someone walking down the street shouting and hallucinating, you get someone trained in mental health care and deescalation, not someone armed whose job it is to enforce the law. More social work. More community building. More restorative justice programs for non violent crimes. More support for kids at risk. More mental health care. More housing-first support for the homeless. Coming out of that top line budget item, right there.
