What should have been the next chapter of Lavender Sheets has grown so long that I might need to just make it it's own fic. Luckily, LS is at a fairly logical end, but I want to finish what I THOUGHT would be the end of LS before I make the decision to split or not.

Either way, not done with letting these hedgehogs get freaky.

WIP Wednesday

I thought I'd share what's been going on with my writing! Hopefully I'll make it a Wednesday tradition, to keep myself accountable.

So, above is a few lines from a fic I'll start sharing on Friday. I've nicknamed it the "Surrogate Sonic fic." In this story, after Rouge and Knuckles are unable to carry a baby to term, they tell their friends that they are interviewing surrogates, and Sonic immediately volunteers. The fic doesn't follow the surrogacy, but instead the aftermath. And, most specifically, Shadow's reaction to Sonic's newly developed knockers.

Yes. This fic is basically an excuse to explore lactation kink. Congrats.

It feels really different writing this, because I'm TYPING. For those who don't know, my preferred method of writing is handwriting on my iPad using a program called MyScript Notes. I can write for a while, then tap on the text and the program turns my handwriting into plain text. It always needs a fair bit of editing, because my handwriting is terrible, but that gives me a good opportunity for close editing. Although, there are always things I miss. If you ever notice someone's cook getting licked...well...

Typing is a lot faster, but I'm on the fence about the output. There's a certain kind of slow contemplation that comes with handwriting and hand editing. But sometimes you just want to get the fic out there!

Now, as for the Courtship Verse, here's where I'm at:

The next chapter of "Lavender Sheets" kept expanding, and now definitely has to be its own fic. There's also the issue of a tone shift from "Lavender Sheets," since there's not much smut here, more workplace shenanigans and sibling bonding. There is SOME smut, though, and I really like it. I'm going to put a little epilogue on Lavender Sheets right before I start posting chapters of this new fic. Let's see if the ambitions I'm going to put forth in the epilogue actually get fulfilled....

Especially since I need to haul ASS to get out the fic that takes place between Sonic Movie 3 and "On the Courtship of Hedgehogs." There's been little mentions of what happened during the Metal Sonic crisis, but the fic tells it all. Problem is, I need to go back and read some comics. Some old...horribly drawn comics. But there's a little seed of brilliance in them.

Or, more accurately, an acorn.

Anyways, I suppose look out for the first chapter of the Surrogate Sonic fic on Friday! Four chapters are done in rough draft, and I'm booking it through the rest. I'm very motivated to get through chapter 5, because right after...things turn spicy.

The unfortunate part of writing fanfic is that, eventually, you have written enough fanfic that you can occupy yourself all night rereading your own fanfic.

Anyways, Lavender Sheets pleases me. Still working on the consent talk chapter.

Finished editing next chapter of Lavender Sheets! :D

Not going to post for a few days. But I wanted to share a new part of my process.

I dislike over-using words, so I started inputting my stuff into WordCounter.net, which will give you a list of the most commonly found words in your text.

I started off with this (after asking it to ignore things like names). I could definitely tell that "back" and "more" were big problems, as "back" was used whenever I talked about something returning to how it was or over-describing directions, like a hand going back to quills or someone stepping away. I also wasn't a fan of "could," since it felt like that would be associated with being able to do some action, and was also probably extraneous.

So, a little editing, and here's what I wound up with:

That "back" fell SHARP. There were several times when it meant the body part, and sometimes i switched it out with "spine" or just "pelt." "Down" got a good reduction, but it pays a pretty prominent part in the dirty talk, so there wasn't a lot to do there. "Mouth" had some of its usage split to "lips," "jaw," and "maw," depending on the context (the hornier it was, the more likely to get "jaw" or "maw").

I'm sure I could keep doing this forever, but, at some point, you gotta stop editing and go do something else.

So, anyways. New Lavender Sheets in a few days. And, uh...as a Discord friend pointed out....
