Yeah, more or less. She makes the argument that she’s writing for a future, more tolerant, less heteronormative world. I’d make the counterargument that she’s writing books now, for an audience now, in a very heteronormative world, and having Ronan (or Adam for that matter) actually put a name or a voice to sexual identity would still be meaningful to future readers, even if those future readers are less starved for representation than we are.
Also, yknow, I refuse to believe that TRC can possibly take place in a world where sexuality doesn’t really matter, since 96% of The Dream Thieves is either Ronan hating himself for/having a deep personal crisis over being attracted to men or Kavinsky throwing around insults based on Ronan being attracted to men. :\ (You could argue that the crux of those insults is Kavinsky insinuating Ronan is into Gansey specifically, but I mean. Come on.)
