Ok it’s been so hard for me to pin down my love for The Raven Cycle but I think I am finally hitting it.

I will preface this by saying that I’ve been calling this series epic poetry—there’s loosely a plot but I don’t think anyone is here for the plot. The plot sucks, if you can even call it a plot. It’s even hard to recall the order of events sometimes and i’ve read this series many times.

Part of the beauty of this series is how Maggie has a thesis statement “time is a circle” that she states over and over “memory and clairvoyance is the same thing in different directions”. She starts the series—the first line—by telling you exactly what happens at the very end of the series. “Blue was going to kill her first love” —“gansey died”. You can feel it even if you don’t see it at first. Maggie uses prophecy not as a play-by-play of the plot, like most prophecies are used for (i’m thinking of percy jackson specifically but that isn’t the only one) but as proof of her thesis that everything has already happened and will happen and is happening. and i think that’s so cool!!!!

well there's currently 22 songs on the playlist (they're not all staying – I'm the kind of person who has to throw everything together and then whittle it away again) and I've got about five of them in a really nice order. good start 👍

The main problem is that I can't decide what I want as the first track to set the tone for the mix... I think it'll also be hard to thread the musical needle between the various plot threads. Like for sure TDT has a really pronounced, definite tone in my mind, but trying to find music that encompasses everything that creates that tone AND sounds good together is gonna be tricky... I don't actually want it to be Ronan's Early-2010s EDM Power Hour, that's a different mix (but maybe another one I should try to make? 👀) (also trust there WILL be some early-2010s EDM, just not the whole thing).
