So I managed to make it to Laverne Cox’s UNT presentation. I thought I had missed it as it was originally scheduled for February, but then yesterday I was informed it was rescheduled for today. I made it a little late -car troubles- but still managed to see the majority of her speech and the questionnaire. It was outstanding. Thought provoking, and very enjoyable. I’m glad I made it. Laverne Cox was a wonderful speaker. she was smug and funny at some moments and chillingly solemn at others. she laughed a lot, which is something her character in oitnb doesn't really do - her giggle is adorable. most of all, she was warm, relatable, and human. If you have the chance to attend her Ain't I A Woman talk somewhere, I highly recommend it.
