1,4,22,24 for the dgm ask!
1. How did you discover DGM?
When I was younger, they used to air two anime series on our free-to-pay TV here at 11pm-12am on weekdays (one ep for each series) and I was a huge fan of watching the anime that they aired. DGM started airing after the previous series ended, and since I was already tuned in anyway, I decided to just give it a try. At that time, the first season was almost/already complete, and the second season was airing iirc, so we got like weeks of it to watch. I ended up being fascinated by it, and in December 2007 the broadcast had caught up with the Japan broadcast so it became one episode per week. I remember it was a big deal then because we had same-week broadcasts and it was my first time ever watching an anime on the same week that it aired in Japan - the episode aired on Tuesdays in Japan, and on Fridays here. It was a good time.
4. Did you read the manga first and then watched the anime, or vice versa?
I started reading the manga very shortly after I started watching the anime, since I was very curious about everything and at the time it was an absolute pain to watch anime online. I started reading on onemanga.com (wow that name is ancient), and at some point I began buying the tankobon volumes.
22. When did you join the fandom?
This is… up for debate depending on whether you count fandom as ‘creating fanmade content’ or ‘interacting with fellow fans’.
I wrote my first DGM fanfic in September 2007, took a hiatus from animanga fandom between 2010-2014, then came back in 2014 and never really left. I also remember using DGM fansites and communities back then, but I was never an active member of those fansites and forums and usually only lurked on them. I mostly interacted with people on fanfiction.net & my own RL friends who were also fans of the series.
If you mean “active meta discussions & interaction with fellow fans” then it’d be March 2016 when I came back to tumblr for a K-drama and ended up getting sucked back into DGM with the hype around then-Chapter 222.
24. If something worries you, to which character would you go to to talk about your worries?
Kanda. I usually just need a listening ear when I get worried, and as we’ve seen, Kanda canonically is good at doing that. He’ll also be super good at calming me down and telling me my fears/worries are unfounded if I end up extrapolating too much.
