I like in Alien Bodies where it explains that visible damage to the interior of a TARDIS- scorch marks, frayed cables etc isn't really literal physical damage but is the TARDIS telepathically indicating to the pilot that it is damaged on a higher-dimensional level.

I love it when books have characters doing rock paper scissors and actually show the extremely convoluted strategizing that goes on in those few seconds between saying "rock, paper, scissors, shoot!" and picking which one you're gonna use.
