Because I am too pretentious to just say "Intro Post"
Hello! I am the Taran Wood Beast! GRRRRAGGHHHWWWBLBLBLAAAGGHHHHGRAGGGAGAGHHH!
I'm guessing if you're here, you probably have a lot of thoughts about the British science-fiction adventure programme, Doctor Who! Me too! Here are some hopefully helpful things to know about me:
A. I am American.
2. No...B. I am somewhereabouts in my 30s and have been enjoying Doctor Who since I was like, 13.
3. or C. bisexual
4. or D. or that little iv in brackets they use in footnotes. Don't ask me my favorite Doctor, I don't have one. It's whichever one I'm watching at a given moment. Or it's just the current incumbent. Or it's whichever one I wake up in the morning feeling like I want to watch an episode from.
I do however have a favorite actor who has played the Doctor. It's Christopher "Rid the Universe of Your Filth" Eccleston. (see header image.)
He/him is fine.
Steven Moffat is a good writer most of the time. If you are looking for anti-Moffat content, go elsewhere.
Chris Chibnall is not a good writer most of the time. However as far as the Doctor Who era is concerned I'm broadly Chib-neutral. If you are looking for committed anti-Chib content, go elsewhere.
I have very deep and thorough knowledge of all televised Doctor Who.
I have middling knowledge of spinoff-novel Doctor Who. Have read about half the NAs, a handful of the EDAs and MAs. For the NAs I like the Cornell, Orman, and Aaronovitch stuff best. For the EDAs I've read I like the Paul Magrs and Lawrence Miles stuff best.
Fairly familiar with the first 100 or so Big Finish Main Range stories and the Charley and Lucie-era McGann stuff. My overall opinion on Big Finish these days is that is devolved into derivative and uninteresting Whoniverse content mill that long ago swallowed its own tail.
My actual reviews of episodes will be tagged #whoblogging
Favorite seasons (63-89): Season 2, Season 7, Season 10, Season 16, Season 18, Season 24, 25 and 26.
Favorite seasons (05-22): Series 3, Series 5, Series 9
The Valeyard is undercooked and not interesting to me.
I have favorite stories and episodes too but there's no point listing them all here.
I can and will shitpost and meme about this show.
Doctor Who is fun and camp and silly and yes it's spooky and cerebral and dramatic at times too and that stuff is great and I love it but at the end of the day let's try not to take ourselves too seriously, huh? :)
Lawrence Miles is the funniest person in the fucking world for that bit where Alien Bodies does a gigantic buildup to "oh fuck the Daleks are here" only to pull out a punchline that the Daleks have been killed and their ship hijacked by a FUCKING KROTON.
He's also got 26 ribs (humans have 24), two hearts, two livers, a large number of something called "pulmonary tubes" instead of a pair of lungs, and triple-helixed DNA (with matching chromosome trios instead of pairs).
Only fair he be missing something to make up for all the other stuff he's got extras of.
!!!
I was trying to figure out what each of the doctors "have"
Like, 10 has anger, 9 has guilt, 12 has sadness, and I couldn't figure out what 11 had, it was one of the reasons I disliked his character so much. But I figured it out, and it completely changed my view on him.
he forgets.
thats his whole thing.
he moves on, gives up on feeling that guilt
it changes how I feel about him completely because suddenly he's not just this "silly" caricature, he's hiding! He's overcompensating for his guilt, by restarting.
I am explaining this so wrong but surely someone will get what I'm going for and rip off my post writing it way better
My first issue with a lot of the Doctor Who in-universe manuals/guides is that they often go with the gimmick of being written from the point of view of the Doctor. As if that dork would have the patience to sit down and write a manual or field guide about anything that would be even passingly cohesive to the average reader.
My second issue is that they're often just....... wrong.
so we just need to headcanon that they're all being written down or scrapbooked by a companion who's getting all their info from the Doctor and assuming it's true.
Ppl send topics and instead of salt or hot takes, you MUST talk abt smth you like about it. Good excuse to gush abt smth you already love, OR think and find smth positive to say.
Hard mode, “missed potential” is NOT allowed as an answer.
