About TRANSform Me--it's important to actually watch the video, and especially to notice how Laverne Cox repeatedly and explicitly positions herself and the other trans women as being "uniquely qualified" to "bring out the real woman" in the makeover subject. The critique is not of the idea of a makeover show featuring trans women as advisors, but of this show in particular. I think if you watched it, you'd be horrified by what these advisors have to say re what females must do to be acceptable.
Thanks for this perspective. I haven't watched the show, but from the play-by-play on gendertrender it seems pretty awful.
I like the idea of a tv show where trans women and females can discuss issues about beauty, patriarchy, expectations etc in a constructive way. Trans women who have gotten over their mansplain/transplain phase can have some useful insights. But apparently the show is about something totally different!
