Light had made it's way through the thin curtains, illuminating the space that had been dark for hours. Charlie shifted in his sleep, waking up once his unconscious realized what-- or rather who he held. His eyes slowly opened, the light blinding him the second his unadjusted eyes caught sight of the thinly veiled window. He lowered his head, letting his eyes recover in the shadows of the shape in front of him. As he started to come to, his mouth broke out into a small, sleepy smile. Layla slept soundly next to him, no longer curled up on his chest like they had started, instead she lay in the bed next to him with his arms still wrapped around her. Carefully, he unwound one of his arms, reaching back behind him to grab hold of his phone from the nightstand where it sat undisturbed through the night. He clicked the home button, lighting up the screen as it read with two new emails from the council. Quickly, he tapped the screen here and there, opening the email on the tiny device. His heart picked up as both of the emails held the same subject. 'Institute Under Quarantine'. He skimmed the first email, his heart dropping. /Conditions of those quarantined getting progressively worse. Updates will be sent every few hours with new information on the situation/. Before he could scroll through the next message, he looked down as Layla shifted next to him, her head still resting on his chest.
