Front cover Layout tests
I wanted to look at what image, font choice and position i wanted for the small bit of text identifying the theme of the article. (For the logo i already experimented with it and chose the font)
Test 1 - Top Left
Taking my inspiration from i-D by using a portrait the overall image nice but the background was to bright so i had to change the colour of the logo which i feel lost some of professional look to it. one part i do like is the font i used for the ‘How to be’ its plain and simple and reflects the overall aesthetic of the magazine.
in conclusion i won't use the image but will consider the font.
Test 2 - Top Right
First off i do like the overall image but i feel to much is going on and there is to much space in the background and looks slightly overpowering. my other problem with it is the logo looks lost at the top to overcome this issue i will make the text bigger. the font used again for the bottom is a similar typewriter look like the first image but i feel the look of the text is to thin and won't stand out to the reader.
in conclusion this design has made me rethink the size of the logo and pushed me towards bolder fonts
Test 3 - Bottom Left
Out of all four this is my Favourite image it has everything i was looking for after all my artist research. its not to dark and the light isn't over powering. like i said in my Test 2 evaluation i will make the logo text bigger so it doesn’t look to lost at the top. With the text at the bottom i thought about using a more extravagant font that had a tribal theme to it but found it looked out of place next to the simple logo.
overall i will use the image as my cover photo and make the font bigger for the logo i might playground with the placement of the bottom text as well as the font.
Test 4 - Bottom Right
with test 4 i did go big trying out the logo placement because of the nature of the image i had to move the logo and make it vertical and i don't really like it as it doesn't fit in with my theme much its just to extravagant for the overall theme. i did change the layout of the ‘How To Be’ making a long line but i docent look as good as the previous layout, the font is the same in the first image and i am personally favouring it.
altogether this layout has let me explore ideas and show me what i like and don't like and what to avoid but it has helped me find a font style for bottom text which is a
Summary
With 4 layouts i created i have found out what i need to look at and how to improve certain aspects of the overall look what i can take away from this is
enlarging the font on the logo
change the bottom text font to a simple typewriter look
use the image from Test 3
use the ‘How To Be...’ in a small text and on top of the enlarged the ‘Nature’ underneath
