Evaluation and Final Edits
For this Project i had to create a Cover and 2 double page spreads for a magazine, i quite liked the idea of exploring layouts as it gave me the chance to see how photographers are used in different industry and that its not always about taking photos.
Parts that i found really interesting abut this project was how photographers also become a graphics designer so to speak as they work on layouts for spreads in magazines. i really enjoyed experimenting with different software and being able to create different layouts showing off my images in a different way.
The techniques i looked at were image and text placement and style i was looking at how a certain font can change the whole aesthetic of an article as well as how and were you place an image can change so much on a magazine.
If i had more time i would have wanted to develop my placement of text a more and looking at how i can i change the overall layout of the text instead of it being in block colloms.
The Photographers i looked at through this project were Lesser known but have all had experience working with Magazines and nature Antonina Dolani was a big inspiration for my second shoot.
Dolani had inspired me the most with her Lost Woods shoot as it tied in really well with my theme and initial idea of using woodland even though i didn't get the foggy misty look i was still very happy with what i had achieved.
I feel like my experiments were the strongest part as i put thought into what i wanted and tested them out on how they look tweaking bits and nit picking all the parts to make it into something i was proud of.
My weakest points in this assignment were time management and photographer research. for instance i looked at a lot of photographers but forgot to document looking at them so my research is lacking this was down to time management and i didn't plan out my weeks properly. another problem i faced was my shoots because i focused my idea on nature and wanted to shoot my model outside in forest but due to the season the weather really wasn’t on my side on some of the days but i managed to get two shoots outside that i am happy with and one in the studio.
what i have learned from my weaknesses is to manage my time better and start creating time plans and scheduled with myself to say ‘i will research this person today’ i will also not focus on one idea and keep my ideas open to changes.
if i was to redo this project again i would have allowed drastic changes towards my work and work on time management as well as researching artist.
My final layouts look like how i imagined them i would have changed them but due to my time limits i didnt get the chance but if i was to revisit this work i would change one of my double page spreads. this project has helped me understand that not all of my ideas that i have work within the time frame given.
