❝ i didn’t realize how badly i wanted to spend today with you. ❞ ( @lazaruspitreborn )
Roy took a long, slow breath from the fresh air of the cool evening, leaning back on the bench and letting Jason's words hang in the air for a moment unresponded as though to give them more gravity than they already possessed.
With Lian spending the day at a trust friend's house, Roy had taken the opportunity to come to Gotham instead of having the man drag his ass all the way over to his place. He hadn't been here for a while, and it wasn't like the city was some tourist magnet anyway, but there was one person in particular he would make his way here for every night if he was capable of it.
Turning to look at Jason, the man looked just a tad more peaceful outside the city's walls. They were hanging about yhe other side of Gotham River, walking about the empty promenade that hugged the riverline and provided a scenic view onto the city itself. Its lights, huge skyscrapers and its modern architecture in all its glory— a well oiled machine that one could easily forget the crumbling cogs inside.
But tonight was not about Gotham city or fighting corruption, wasn't it? No, today had been Valentine's Day. And while it was almost over, really, Jason wanting to spend the last few remaining hours of it had to count for something, right? Memories of their night together always kept resurfacing in moments like this.
Roy felt a tug of amusement pulling at his heartstrings. Jason was always good at keeping him so toes, huh?
"Well, it's good to know I'm better company than some thugs who need a good beatin'." Roy joked lightheartedly, shoving his hands in his jacket's pockets. He should have brought an extra layer; it was getting cold.
"... I'm glad we're getting to spend some time tonight, too, though." he added soon after, tone shifting to a softer, more serious tone. "You'll never convince me Gotham is a pretty city, but at least there's something else beautiful I can stare at all night." he teased.
