God the hiperfocus is so bad I'm on a hunt to read EVERY SINGLE book retelling of Carmilla that i can find. I already read fucking 5 in 4 months, together with the original.

Hungerstone - Kat Dunn (my precious, personal favorite)
Vitiligo Peak - Dion Anja (pretty good)
Wolves of Styria (the one I personally enjoyed least)

Fun fact: fully converted my gf into watching the whole series because we watched the first season and she was: "meh, it's cool and i liked it, but idk about watching it fully". I then proceded to beg to watch at least the movie because i wanted to see her reaction (love her reactions), and after a screaming match at that scene, she was like: "no yeah, we watching this whole thing"

I was watching some tive travel stuff on youtube (as you do-) out of fun and acidentally learned about this thing called "The Dodleston Messages", basically an unexplained paranormal stuff that happen with a teacher that started to recieve messages on his computer allegedly writen by a man in 1546.
My first thought was to make it hollstein-
So... the soulmate AU is basically Laura recieving messages in her laptop writen by Mircalla in 1698. It starts out it her recieving actual entries on Mircalla's diary before it turns into full comunication from both sides. They don't actually have any hopes of meeting up, but as you know, Mircalla laters turns into a vampire so-
Kinda of playing in the fact that Laura's soulmate is a fucking austrian countess from the 17th century, which will never not be funny to me
