I LOVE HIM HE’S SO GOOD I WANT ONLY GOOD THINGS FOR HIM
Rummaging through my screenshots and found this particular bit. While I had some issues with how the 2nd game ended (including some stuff that happens in this same scene), this little exchange here was not one of them. I really, really liked this bit. I would even argue it’s one of my favorite bits of dialogue in the entirety of the second game.
(This scene was also very validating for me on a personal level as someone who wrestled with the forgiveness and learning that it’s relationship to process of healing (of either the self or one’s accord with another person) is more fluid then my upbringing taught me.)
Did some surface level research on wine production in the UK to try and place where Barok van Zieks’ country home might reasonably be (since a lot of British aristocrats not only had homes in London, but one in the country or potentially more properties across England).
It seems like wine production really wasn’t a thing in England very much up until the last century though due to the cold climate there (which makes sense tbh). But regions like Sussex, Essex, and Kent work for sustaining vineyards due to being warmer.
(Aside: Kent is where Dover is, the port that characters in TGAA arrive and depart from when going to and from Britain by Steamship.)
I’m currently torn between placing the Van Zieks estate in Eastern Sussex and the southern most part of Kent. But either could work for Barok having a vineyard on the estate. I think I’m slightly leaning towards the latter but due to a small detail I already wrote in my WIPs I feel like maybe I shouldn’t go for that (but I can always change that detail easily to put it in Kent, especially since said detail has no bearing on the story and it was just a throw away piece of dialogue).
The renewed interest in Fire Emblem Three Houses is making me want to revive an arranged marriage Claude von Riegan/OC fanfic I had in the works at one point but never got around to actually writing. I had a title for the fic and the OC + beginning part of the plot pretty fleshed out, but it never got as far as well... actually writing any chapters or anything.
I think I even made a post about the OC at one point but my brain is a bit fuzzy in the details.
I still love Yuri Lecleric so much omg it’s not even funny. *blushing and hiding face in hands*
That feeling when you start getting into a piece of media and come up with a really cool OC and a cool story for your OC in said media. And then you go to AO3 to find stories for this media with OCs in them and out of nearly 2k fics for the thing, there are less than 30 fics with any Original Character tags (and even fewer OC/Canon tags).
Just kind of makes me feel like. You know. Maybe I’ll just keep my fic idea to myself and maybe a few friends.
All that I said in the tags though, even if Dragon Age is a series I don’t enjoy as much anymore (and take more issue with the writing than I used to), I still really like some of the characters in it and appreciate some of them more now that I’m older and have more experience/a different perspective than I used to (Merrill and Morrigan in particular have become my favorites, and I still have soft spots for Varric and Fenris). And I also like some characters less, which isn’t surprising either. But, it comes with the territory of not being quite the same person I was so many years ago, you know?
Oh yeah, the other day I decided to briefly switch the audio to Japanese and rewatch Yuri and Byleth’s C Support because I’ve been curious for a while what Yuri sounded like.
It was interesting to listen to and compare how the Japanese VA voiced certain lines VS Yuri’s English VA. I think overall both of them do a good job with Yuri and both convey his character very well, just different with an emphasis of different aspects of his character if that makes any sense?
I’d have to watch them side by side again but I remember what stood out for me was when voicing the part where he asks Byleth what Byleth wants (”is it money? me? Or are you just looking for something to kill.”) and I noticed his Japanese VA speaks really softly during that part in particular compared to the rest of the conversation, but I don’t recall that being part of the English version. And I think overall it gives the line a different sort of emotional weight but I can’t quite put my finger on what it is at the moment.
