I Promised

You looked at your bruised knee and ankle trying to shake off the pain when Professor walked in closing the big door behind him "I just don't realise why climbing up a tree was necessary" The professor said adjusting his glasses on his nose,

nearly 6 month ago Berlin offered you a significant mount of money to join the gang you never thought you'll be sitting behind a computer monitor for most hours of your day just to watch what is happening inside and out of the mint "There was a bird on our camera and i couldn't see anything! It wasn't even my fault!!" You pouted trying to stand up when your leg gave in and before you knew Professor was holding both your arms in his to keep you from falling down, you can swear that he stared in your eyes for a good couple of second "I just never understood why Berlin insisted on you being here, when half you do is fooling around" he said leaving you to stand on your own "I owe him my life, and now i'm here to do my part, well not all people are like you professor, some people out there actually appreciate the work that is done for them" you hissed at him slowly waddling to your seat again putting your headphones back on when the red phone rang, the tense ringtone made you spin around and quickly answering the phone, you watched through the cameras just to see them all in a room gathered and Berlin was on the phone giving a concern look to the camera above him.

"What happened?" Professor said standing next to you staring at the monitor.

"Two cops were wounded" Berlin answered.

"Who shot?"

"Tokyo" he simply said looking straight into the camera, you felt your heart dropped when you heard the deep groan coming from the man behind you one of his hands on your chair and the other one was holding the phone.

"Let me talk to her" he said removing the hand from back of your chair and rubbed his eyes under the glasses,

When you saw Berlin handed the phone to Tokyo you started to search for the camera footages from an hour earlier, the same hour that you went out and almost got yourself killed on a tree, the feeling of guilt was filling you up little by little as you watched the whole of what happened, the guilt that wasn't even yours,

"And Mr. Professor, regardless how much you thought it through things don't always end up as you wanted!" You were dragged out of your thoughts when you heard what Tokyo said behind the phone when professor bend down to your height, when he angrily pound the phone down, you nearly jumped by the sudden action holding your breath "I'm sorry, now can you watch them carefully?" he slowly said looking directly into your eyes when he let out his breath, you nodded looking back at him as he slowly walked away to look for his keys when you found them on your desk, "Professor!" You called for him while grabbing the keys and hardly standing on your feet, he turned back seeing your red tinted forehead and nose when you were trying to keep quiet as the pain grew stronger and stronger in your ankle "your keys" you said letting out your breath, he walked back getting the keys from your hand and shoved it into his pocked when he kneeled before your seat, "vamos, sit down" he mumbled helping you to sit back carefully looking at your swollen ankle and taking it in his hand when you felt a sharp pain in your leg "oh shit shit shit, Sergio don't!" Suddenly, getting aware of what you just called him both of your looked at each other and you quickly covered your mouth with your hand, you knew his name and he knew that you do too, Andrés called him with his name several times and he seemed like he didn't mind it then, he trusted you the moment he agreed on you being in here not inside, although sometimes you might be hard to deal with but he had to admit that he needed you so "i'm sorry i- my leg hurt so bad when you touched it" your tried to explain your sudden comment on his name as he shock his head "it's alright Y/n but we need to think about this ankle" he stood up walking away from you and the desk "i'm going to get you some painkillers, i'll be back in few hours" you smiled at him as he left the place quietly leaving you with the monitors and pictures to look at for the next painful hours, you didn't realise when it happened, when you started to feel safe and secure among bunch of thieves, was it an ecpesific day or night back in Toledo? An ecpesific word or promise that left their lips which made you believe you were wanted, needed? You felt your eyes dried by staring at a blank space for almost too long now massaging them to reduce the dryness and puffiness when the phone rang, again.

You tried to pull yourself together when you saw in one of the monitors that the call is actually from inside the mint, it's Berlin which gave you a ridicules mount of confidence to answer the call as you reached your hand for the phone, you hesitated for a couple of seconds before answering "The professor is not here" you whispered looking at him through the cameras "just tell him the inspector might call soon" "i will" you whispered back again ready to hang up "where did he go Y/n?" He asked standing up from his chair and walking around the room "he- i kinda broke my ankle when i wanted to clear a camera that was blocked" he chuckled at your words shaking his head "tsk tsk, you're on a mission! I put you there to keep an eye on Sergio, now you're the one he gotta look after" you laughed looking at your leg "I will take care of him Andrés, i promised" you said back to him, pressing your lips together as he hung up the phone leaving you with the loud silence, until Sergio walked in with a bag of medicine and bandage looking at you all climbed up in your chair with your leg swinging around, having your headphones on kept you from hearing him coming inside so he decided to keep it that way by slow walking towards your chair, he bent over a bit and tapped on your headphone a few times trying to get your attention back, when you finally noticed him you quickly took off your headphone and left it around your neck, he was inches away from your face, looking at you like this is what he always do, a habit of him when it truly wasn't "sorry i didn't hear you coming in, i- Berlin called!" You said trying to make the situation less awkward still, he didn't move a muscle nodding briefly encouraging you to continue talking "and he said that the inspector will be calling you soon" he blinked slowly sitting down on one knee before you again placing the bag next to himself "when the phone rang twice, Berlin will connect it to us in here" he started explaining while he hold your leg and placed it on his knee "then you're going to let it ring again, twice" he continued as he opened a bandage and gave you a spray bottle to open, you did what he wanted as you watched his hands carefully "and the show begins, i'll answer the phone so they'll know what they have to deal with" he was focused, a bit tensed but still skilled in what he was doing, he grabbed the bottle from you and sprayed it all over your now purple ankle "this will ease the pain, but you gotta take care of it" "gotta take care of a lot of things now i'm here" you smiled back at him to make him sure you're alright, or maybe extract a feeling out of him this feeling was new to you in all ways, you felt safe when he was around, he fixed the bandage around your ankle and made sure it was tight enough to hold your leg in place and prevent it from moving more.

The phone rang again which caused both of you to look it's way, you looked back at Sergio again "it must be the inspector" you murmured moving your hair out of your face, he changed his gesture carefully placing your leg down still looking at the phone, then waited for it to ring again, one more time before picking it up. "Hello?" A woman called from the other side of the phone.

"Good evening." Professor replied, sitting up on a chair behind your now shared desk,

"This is Raquel Murillo, inspector incharge of negotiations. Who's this?"

"The man incharge"

He waited for a second or two before talking again, "How are your colleagues doing?"

"For now, we don't have to regret any casualties."

"I'm glad." He nodded in respond.

It was a moment of silence between the two, and as the call felt heavier than always, sergio looked your way.

"Any other questions?" The inspector asked,

You were hoping for the call to end at any moment as if maybe it'll ease the unbearable tension that has been set between the two of you.

"Yes" Sergio said still looking at you like you were the one on the phone, "What are you wearing?"

Your eyes widen at his sudden comment, this wasn't the professor your knew, not until now, he was visibly more confident now.

"What?"

The sound of the inspector dragged both of you out of your thoughts, you cursed he under your breath moving your chair closer to the desk trying to look busy to avoid him.

"How are you dressed? Don't you think our clothes say a lot about our personalities?"

This time he was looking at the phone not you, you chewed your bottom lip trying to get the words he was saying out of your head, seemed impossible.

The conversation continued as you kept looking back and forth between Sergio and the phone before him when you felt the lack of oxygen in the room was suffocating you, you stood up opening the first button of your shirt as you walked towards the door, hardly. Why was he talking to her like that? What was the point of it either than to bitch around a person he doesn't even know! The thoughts in your head were getting the best of you when you opened your eyes only to realise you were standing outside the doors, Outside! You shook your head when someone grabbed you by arm and trailed you back inside, closing the door "Where in the god damn world we were allowed to go outside for a walk, eh?" Sergio almost shouted from frustration looking at your eyes, "i-" you frowned pulling your arm out of his hand "don't fucking yell at me! Who do you think you are now!" You stepped back trying to move to your seat again "oh let me say, you're the man incharge" you spat rolling your eyes, "what has gotten into you Y/n?" "Nothing" you continued to stumble around the place, "the things i said behind the phone was part of the plan!" He ran to you to make sure you won't fall down on your swollen leg "it's none of my business, rather than the whole gang giggling at your sudden boldness" you said throwing yourself on the chair, looking at him. "Did you liked it?" You raised an eyebrow at him "liked what? Your flirting skills? Bet you learned them from Berlin." You laughed your nervousness off, looking at the computer, "That is not flirting Y/n, flirting was when i decided to look at you saying the lines that i wasn't suppose to" he took a step closer to your chair "and that, yes i kinda did learn it from him! So tell me, did you liked it?" He asked again, there was no way for you to scape answering this, "Could be better, but you'll learn" he laughed fixing his glasses again, you stood up from your chair pushing his glasses a little bit more up on his nose "You promised him to take care of me?" You simply nodded giving him a small smile caressing his cheek with your cold fingers, he moved his eyes between your fingers and your eyes looking for consent as he pulled you in for a kiss, a deep passionate kiss, the kiss trailed a new feeling for both of you, "we better get back to work" you laughed on his lips while your eyes were still close "we certainly do," he said slowly leaving your lips, he looked at your face with disbelief yet proud as the fact that he just kissed the one he wanted for so long.

"You know the plan, i'll be back in a few hours" the repeated himself as he walked to the door again this time smiling saying goodbye, you nodded sitting back on your chair.

Now what they should do is bring Berlin back to life and make a spin off about Andrés & Martín and Sergio & Raquel and call it “Everybody Loves Berlin” or “The In-laws”

What do you think the age difference between Martin, Sergio and Rafael?

Premise: since the show never gave us any real clue about the characters' ages, except confused and contradictory hints, this is both based on speculations and my own headcanon.

It took me a while to figure everything out, but I hope this is an accurate enough prospect.

So, let's start with Andrés.

I clearly remember his age in the show being addressed when the police showed his files & his mugshot.

I did a quick online research and it turned out that, according to them, he was born on 7/04/1975, which would make him only 41 during the Mint heist.

I'm almost sure that at some point Piña just decided to ignore his own canon and pretend that Andrés was more around Pedro's age (who's born in 1975).

This for several reasons, mostly concerning coherency and his significant others: Rafael's own existence, his long-standing friendship for Martin, and last but not least, the spinoff, where after all they can't make Pedro look like a teen.

Even like that, continuity issues are not fully solved - but we'll discuss about them in a while.

Now, Sergio.

Searching online, there are no evidences about his real age. This is partly justified in the show, stating that "he has stopped renewing is ID at the age of 19", so it's pretty normal not to have this kind of information about him.

The only guessing we can make is based on his father's death: according to Money Heist Wiki, Jesus Marquina was shot on 5/02/1987.

Sergio was arguably 9 or 10 back then (even though the kid actor who plays him physically looks around 12 - he's tall for his age and even has a hint of beard).

That would mean that he and Andres only have 2 years apart, which honestly doesn't make sense at all to me.

They've always acted around eachother like they had a huge age gap, maybe even a decade, which is also my own headcanon when writing fics. I've always liked the idea of Andrés taking care of Sergio when he was a kid, it gives us a hint of humanity among all the character's shades, and above all, it's also what they seem implying in the show most of the time.

Why call "little brother" a sibling who's around your age? Why mention that Andrés raised him after their parents death? And how will they justify Sergio's absence in the spinoff if he's already an adult?

So, even though the timeline looks quite messy here, I like to think that Sergio & Andrés have a certain age difference. Once again, if you think of it, everything can be cleared up assuming that when he dies, Andrés is in fact in his late 40s.

Third, Martín.

We know nothing about him, nor his age, nor his birthday date, nor anything about his past. The guy's literally a ghost before we got to know him in S3, and in a couple of scenes/lines we even hear the police wondering who he is, which proves that he's probably a clean record.

For some reason, the Wiki claims he's in his late 30s, but that's probably speculation since I can't remember a single statement about his age in the show.

We could assume that he's maybe around Rodrigo age (born in 1976), so 42 during the Bank heist.

Ultimately, my own headcanon is that he's almost certainly younger than Andrés, but maybe a little older than Sergio.

Of course this doesn't make much sense if we keep taking for granted that Sergio is only 2 years younger that Andrés, but like I said, I'm more and more convinced that this was a continuity error and Andrés is older than what previously stated.

And now, the sore spot: Rafaél.

We're forced, here, to rely on the hints featured in the promo pre-s5, where it's clearly stated that the guy is 33.

I like to think - just because that works better narratively speaking - that he's 33 only during the Bank heist, which makes him 28-29 around the Copenhagen heist.

The real matter here is his age gap with Andrés: once again, if we keep assuming that he was 41 when he died, that would mean that he became a father at the age of 11.

Like... No. Just no.

And even assuming that the character is Pedro's age, so 4 years older, makes no sense at all: 15 still looks like a very young age to get "married" - like he implied he was - and I'm almost sure that a minor would face several major issues trying to get married underage.

Andrés also mentions an affair with his french teacher when he was 18, so he definitely finished the school and wasn't married at the time.

He must've been at least 19 to meet and get pregnant Rafael's mother, which means that they're almost two decades apart.

In conclusion, if we think it over, the only way all of this vaguely makes sense is assuming that when he died, Andrés was at least 50 (Pedro's age when they were filming).

That would make Sergio 40 and Martin maybe 43-44 - the timeline is plausible to me.

Final Warning: this whole over-analysis could be affected by the fact that I'm a sucker for fics where kid!Sergio is raised by youngadult!Andrés.

What can I do? Give me my wrecked siblings and no one'll get hurt.
