Event idea- Rook and Vil get tasked(negged by Crowley) with putting on a play for the children of Sage's Island and choose The Handsome Hunter, a theater adaptation of the animated film about the life of the Gallant Heartthrob (aka Gaston).
After auditions (that they make Epel do against his will), they announce who got in.
Kalim is casted to play the father of the Heartthrob's Ladylove (cuz he's based off a dad), Sebek is the Heartthrob's sidekick who's always singing his praises (Le Fou), and Rook plays the main lead (cuz he's a hunter).
Now I can't decide who should play the Ladylove (Belle) between Epel (who would hate it 😂) or Silver (cuz he's a (sleeping) beauty) or someone else entirely.
I also want include some characters from Savannaclaw, Octavinelle, and Ignihyde in the play (largely cuz their respective films have musicals too) but the only other parts I can think of are the Fawning Village Women (The Bimbettes) and the beast terrorizing the village (you already know who)
[ Related, I shared ideas for staff-centric events before and we also had a discussion about Beauty and the Beast event ideas here, here, and here.]
I don't think they need to be forced into making a play at all 😅 Vil and Rook are both lovers of the arts and willing to give back to the community (Vil for his fans, Rook just to spread goodwill). I also don't think they'd force Epel to audition; this was only done in book 5 because Vil had intended to weaponize Epel's cuteness to combat his long-time rival, Neige. Vil doesn't seriously make Epel to engage in the performing arts outside of that period of time.
Maurice and the Sultan have a handful of traits in common... white hair (like Kalim), a little goofy but well-meaning, both fathers, and facial hair (Kalim has stated in his Union Birthday vignettes that he wants to have a dignified beard one day). It seems like a good pick to have Kalim as Maurice!
I have mixed thoughts on Sebek as Le Fou. On one hand, I get why he was selected because he's infamous for being Malleus's number one glazer. He would kinda suck as an actor though, because he'd struggle to genuinely compliment and praise anyone that ISN'T Malleus. I also don't think his disposition is very Le Fou-like, but I guess that isn't necessarily a prerequisite to represent the character 🤷♀️
Rook playing Gaston is such a silly and ironic concept to me. They're both hunters, sure, but Gaston is the definition of vanity, while Rook is his antithesis (finding beauty in everything, not just in himself). They're arguably both selfish--Gaston more traditionally so, and Rook is selfish in that he often acts on his own whims, thereby violating others' privacy in the process--so I guess there's that they have in common.
As I mentioned earlier, I personally wouldn't slate Epel into this narrative. While I do see why Silver would be suitable for the "princess" role, I don't think he should be the default just because he's the only NRC student actually twisted from a princess. Why not instead cast Vil as Belle? He's a beauty that is desired by many, but also has an intellectual side to him as a potions master. Vil even uses a tome to spellcast in his Dorm Uniform card. (It's possible for the director of a project to also act in it!) This is also a great opportunity for Vil to try his hand at playing the hero(ine), since he can't land a formal role in a bigger production. He might as well take advantage of this student project to build up his resume for consideration for future hero roles.
If other characters appeared at all, they'd probably be NPC characters or the villagers. I can't imagine their roles would be super significant.
TW for blood
So not too long ago @pocketcrimes and I ended up creating this little scenario, a canon event if you will, for Le Fou and Maple, which ended up in this magnificent drawing coming to life (if you cant tell, im quite proud of this one, even if i did use a pose base TwT)
Was also my first time rendering blood, so it was quite the challenge! But soooooo worth it <3
