He stood in his studio, staring up at the golden portrait in front of him. Her green eyes looked through him and he bowed his head, wanting nothing more then for her to be here now; the brooch in his hand was cold as his fist tightened around it.

Before him the flecks of gold melted into blues, greens, and the colours of Paris at night, he relives the look on her face as his gloved hand gripped her throat, not even batting an eye as she ripped his Miraculous from his neck. In the moment it didn’t matter, not even as the magic disintegrated from his form. He had her. He had caught the canary. 

He remembers her wide eyes as the life drained out of her, the desperate gasps as she tried to catch her breath. His entire being shook at the echoing memory of her last final plea. 

“Gabriel.”
