Beetle-winged Dragons!

You might have seen me mention “beetle-winged dragons” in a post about the FlashWings. I explained the term as referring to dragons that have opaque (solid, light does not pass through) primary wings and transparent secondary wings, similar to beetle carapaces.

What I meant was in appearance, not function.

But hey, you get some cool art to show examples! Let’s stop yapping and start LOOKING.

You know the drill: closeups below, otherwise next week I’m taking a break! I am tired and slightly burned my hand working on this (tablet got hot lol, I guess I cooked too hard).

I’ll be back whenever I can but I am also very busy so drawing/having art every week is difficult. I’ll come up with something tho!

Hopefully the colours are ok, my tablet has a better screen so they might change on your end! If yes that’s what the closeups are for, hopefully they help…

Silk/Hive hybrid, based on the glasswing butterfly. The ref I found might have been a camera error/specific lighting or angle for the wings to turn pink and blue but it happened enough times that was like “hold up, I can use this”

And last but not least, the Dart/Leaf hybrid, using my alternate LeafWing design. Oh, there we go, next art I post will be them (even tho I kinda already did).

I got a really good idea, though it’ll take some time to finish. Hopefully you’ll like it!

Also, everyone seemed to really like the AntWings! I wanted to include them here but felt their food magic would often mess up the secondary wings (unless…)

Wanted to be inspired by oxidising copper color schemes and the idea of dry autumn leaves if that makes sense. Xerocole is a word for animals adapted to live in the desert because I realise it's kind of hard to find a definition on google for some reason?

+ This is the earliest concept for him, he was going to be a firescale skywing...decided to keep the complementary colors and I am MUCH more satisfied with my ending result lmfao.

New wof oc! Elodea the Sea/Leafwing!

Elodea’s father was a Leafwing (Sapwing) named Sandalwood. He ran to Pyrrhia after being in an awful battle with other dragons (still working out what dragons were fighting him) and collapsed on one of the many islands near the Sea Kingdom. Where he met a the most beautiful dragon he’s ever seen. An exiled Seawing named Shore. Shore was surprised to see this strange dragon, but caught feelings after caring for him for a few weeks. While still week, they managed to have an egg. Unfortunately, Sandalwood passed away from his remaining injuries and past injuries about 3 weeks before Elodea’s egg hatched. Due to this, and all the past years weighing on Shore, she had some kind of postpartum depression when Elodea hatched. That and Shore shielding Elodea from the world lead to Elodea being kind of a asshole

I’m still working on the finer details but that’s it :D

A drawing of my new dragon oc Artemis! She’s technically in the wings of fire world but she’s a hybrid with a jumble of traits. I used some stamp brushes for the grass, leaves, and chains but the rest is all me baby!

Original design was created by duskisdead on instagram and toyhouse. Modified from a headshot design to a full body design by me.

Grass Block, a leafwing hybrid of some kind

Underbrush, the LEAF/mudwing hybrid.

He's a rather shy fellow, and feels like an outsider to the other leafwings around him. He has the Bigwing instincts of a mudwing, leading him to quietly protect smaller/younger dragons despite hating confrontation. While his mudwing heritage is subtle, he's still an outsider. He wants to become a teacher.

His leafwing mother fell for a mudwing when he was visiting the continent, but he had left by the time she found out she had eggs on the way, leaving her alone to raise Underbrush and his sister. Their family, while they didn't completely cut her off, distanced themselves from her due to finding her an embarrassment.
