Beetle-winged Dragons!

You might have seen me mention “beetle-winged dragons” in a post about the FlashWings. I explained the term as referring to dragons that have opaque (solid, light does not pass through) primary wings and transparent secondary wings, similar to beetle carapaces.

What I meant was in appearance, not function.

But hey, you get some cool art to show examples! Let’s stop yapping and start LOOKING.

You know the drill: closeups below, otherwise next week I’m taking a break! I am tired and slightly burned my hand working on this (tablet got hot lol, I guess I cooked too hard).

I’ll be back whenever I can but I am also very busy so drawing/having art every week is difficult. I’ll come up with something tho!

Hopefully the colours are ok, my tablet has a better screen so they might change on your end! If yes that’s what the closeups are for, hopefully they help…

Silk/Hive hybrid, based on the glasswing butterfly. The ref I found might have been a camera error/specific lighting or angle for the wings to turn pink and blue but it happened enough times that was like “hold up, I can use this”

And last but not least, the Dart/Leaf hybrid, using my alternate LeafWing design. Oh, there we go, next art I post will be them (even tho I kinda already did).

I got a really good idea, though it’ll take some time to finish. Hopefully you’ll like it!

Also, everyone seemed to really like the AntWings! I wanted to include them here but felt their food magic would often mess up the secondary wings (unless…)

You get to see their capitol city tho right next to the Dart/Leaf’s tail :)

Drew Hawker from @the-ancient-dragons ‘s fanfic series Alate Atta’s Ascension (can be found on Wattpad), it’s an epic Pantala WoF AU and it’s great because of all the bug dragons (:< I love bugs

Hawker’s book was a really fun one because I loved how relevant Gomphus was, and even when he was not there he was a constant threat for all the characters involved. I’m still occasionally going back into the book just to reread the craziness especially with the Night Hawk tournament. I also found the DartWing’s culture really interesting and it was presented very nicely. And all the artwork in between the chapters is very epic as well!

The Snowflake Seekers

Just wanted to thank everyone for the likes, comments and reblogs on these reviews so far. You’re all great and I love you.

I originally started posting these in the forums on TFW2005, and am archiving them here because, well, finding stuff in the UK Toy Discussion Thread is a nightmare (260,000 posts and counting). I post a new review there every day except Friday, then repost them to the appropriate line appreciation thread the day after, then finally copy them onto here to go into the queue. They get posted every evening at 8.00 pm UK time, so are slowly catching up with the forum posts.

Mostly these reviews are themed, so the first bunch were my deluxe Snowflake Seekers, my doomed attempt to get every seeker in deluxe size without owning a mould more than once (still need a Ramjet and Thrust!). Drift just snuck in there because I’d just got the toy and was hella excited about it. Drift is great. Tomorrow the next theme will start, the principal Autobot cast from season 3 of the 1980s cartoon. After that are all of the Decepticon leaders I own, and after that... I don’t know. 

I’m open to suggestions for the next theme! Any type of character you want to see in a write-up, please let me know, and we’ll see what comes next.

Here is Vhak with a mechanical Dartwing he made for a collage project, it's made from an iridium body, wing material from a chaurus hunter wings and a soul gem placed in the head, making the ends appear as eyes. (Yes it can fly, he has used it for pranks. but tends to treat it like a pet.)
