Twisted Wonderland Silver/Anastasia (1997).
Honestly there's a chance Lilia's dream was biased from the start. Makes sense as to why every human there except Dawn was comedically evil and the Silver Owls acted like cowards. It IS a dream after all, not literal time travel. But since all fans can go off is what they see and assuming its fact, there isnt anything to do with perceptions already made years ago.
While I do think that Lilia’s dream would realistically be affected by his own biases, I do not think this is what happened in practice. Of all the dreams shown in book 7, Lilia’s was the only one ever presented almost as biographical and objectively true.
Some things in the dream are obviously toned back (the violence, for example), but not due to Lilia’s biases—it’s moreso due to the game’s age rating imposing limitations. And, of course, some things that occur in the dream don’t align with real life because Silver, Sebek, Grim, and Yuu obviously weren’t there 400 years ago + the senators didn’t praise him for returning with MallEgg. However, the characters generally treat the events of Lilia’s dream as fact, since they frequently talk about how they “didn’t know” this part of Briarland history. No one ever questions the validity of anything that occurs within this dream. We are highly encouraged by the characters to believe Lilia’s dream via Sebek and Silver. This reads as the writers using the dream as an excuse to loredump to us.
I also disagree with the statement “every human [in the dream] except [the] Dawn [Knight] was comedically evil and the Silver Owls acted like cowards”. Heinrick was comedically evil. However, Lilia’s dream also grants a surprising amount of grace to everyone else on the enemy side. There’s the Dawn Knight, which can easily be excused as Lilia’s psyche viewing him as a flawed but honorable warrior for his battle prowess and for allowing him to escape with MallEgg. But then Lilia’s dream also characterizes Leah, human royalty the nocturnal fae are in conflict with, as nothing but pure goodness. He even later recalls humans showing him kindness and understanding on his worldly travels.
As for the Silver Owls in general, it’s true that some of them acted cowardly. However, I have to wonder how much of this “cowardice”/them running away after fae attack them is just Twst writing out Lilia killing NPCs on screen (again, due to the age rating of the game). Additionally, Lilia’s dream surprisingly humanizes the NPC soldiers in little ways. If you glimpse various dialogue in the book 7 battle maps, you’ll sometimes hear soldiers talking about how the war efforts are wearing them down, how they’re grateful to Leah for her kindness, complaining about how abusive Heinrick is, etc. (Granted, we also see many scenes of fae locals being negatively impacted by the Silver Owls and hear some Silver Owls talking down to fae too; these things should not be ignored.) You hear about how the Silver Owls are selfish, taking up arms for things like gold or glory—but you also hear about realistic things that would drive someone to violence, such as fear that your loved ones may be hurt, a need for resources, the desire to save an ailing relative, etc.
Why would any of these details be included if the intention of the Twst writers really was that Lilia’s dream is biased and we shouldn’t take it at face-value? Again, it just reads to me like Lilia’s dream is one extended history lesson we’re supposed to absorb as a loredump and not question at all. The only details that don’t seem to align with reality is Yuu and co.’s involvement and the senators reacting positively when Malleus is hatched.
Was going to make a general meme dump but I got too caught up in Right of Dawn to finish-
Plus like. One bonus but if your heart is open enough it’s still Right of Dawn lol
