Some of my students have asked for a majuscules exemplar, and my caps can definitely be a bit ... eccentric 😅😅 Idiosyncratic? Unusual? I mean, you could just say “just plain wrong” but that seems a bit harsh 👀 . So let’s do this! #letteradaychallenge leading into May. CLASSES - I love teaching, obviously! I’m always excited about sharing. In Melbourne on the 20th of April and in Brisbane on the 11th of May, I will be running short introductory workshops - Copperplate for Beginners, and Flourishing - and I would love-love-love to see you guys there! . I’ve been basically superglued to my desk this week - some big events coming up that all need invitations and certificates! - but most of them have been in black ink on white. Which is beautiful, crisp and clean, but it doesn’t make my little beady magpie eyes light up the way gold does. 😂😂😂 So I was super happy to get to sit down to calligraph a very special certificate this afternoon using gold metallic powder - Schmincke AquaBronze Reichgold - and a toooon of gum arabic, and twenty minutes on the #soapbyluiscreations to make sure it’s mixed thoroughly. . The trick with any metallic ink, whether it’s shell gold or just bronze powder, is to test and test and test before you commit to your final piece - make a few strokes, let it dry, and run your finger over it to make sure there’s enough binder in it. Nothing worse than pigment coming off into powder after you’ve spent an hour working on it! 💨 😢 .
