Chacola's Graffiti Adventure #1
I have been in love with the feeling and look of graffiti for a few years now, always looking at it from a distance, reading books about its history and technique, trying to design things but never really going too far into it. It all just seemed so big- The most I could do was implement some of the feeling into logo design or general composition:
Many games and movies have come out since that have further cemented my love for the art form but it wasnt until a few days ago when we needed a sign board for the art booth that I actually bought spray paint.
I drew out many times what exactly I wanted to write, the word: AXIOMUSE (a combination of the word axiom- meaning "assumed truth" and muse) which is a bit tricky of a word
I have quickly learned that maybe an airbrush wouldve been better for the scale I was working with
Spraypaint is really good at doing gradients even when there's only one color involved
I ended up cutting and relining with my paintbrush but I'm really proud with how it turned out!!
I also know I need a LOT of practice so I plan to go walk around downtown and take pictures of really inspiring work and tags I see around.
In regards to tags I had been watching many a video of how to look at graffiti as a font art in addition to the flow of the shapes and colors. My own normal handwriting is a little like a casual cursive so I decided maybe to lean into that a bit when deciding how this writing was going to work:
Like making a new signature :D I think I've settled on a good flow so I plan on saving a few, looking at them a day later to see if I also like the whole form - separate from the legibility
