a lil bby stationary haul. I got all of these items on sale which is absolutely great bc stationary is crazy expensive. Id have loved some more minimalistic notebooks but i think these are cute. i got 10 fineliners for the price i would normally pay for 3 of these ones, some pastel highlighters i got at 70% off, markers/fineliners and this cute pencil case at half price and 3 notebooks for my lecture/course notes at a 60% off which is all a major score (bc now ive got some extra cash to get some scented candles <3) i also didnt wanna spend a ton of money bc we're redoing my bedroom and i wanna make it nice :)

Playing Slither.io with your half-written essay ignored in a separate tab
Spend 20 consecutive hours writing an optional essay, while pretending that the one due in a couple of weeks doesn’t exist
4+ cups of coffee go cold because you have a sudden spurt of energy writing about a topic for one of your deadlines
Read 5 chapters of The Secret History on the trot instead of editing that essay due in a week
Stare at an assignment brief for ten minutes, then go and make your own bread
Just lying on your bed watching the street lights outside at gone midnight because you can feel the productivity will kick in any second
“Wait, when did it get to 4am?” blearily looking up from your laptop screen where a 5,000 word draft now sits
Cracking your knuckles and stretching out, taking a deep breath and feeling the tension leave your shoulders for the first time in hours as you tear your attention from your textbook and notice your surroundings once more
Leaving your lecturer speaking in the online classroom, but with your camera turned off so you can walk around and tidy your living space while listening to them like a podcast
Waking up on a slightly colder, greyer morning than those before and just knowing that today you’re going to be productive
Smiling to yourself smugly as you wrap your hands around a mug of hot tea at 7am; you’ve got the perfect idea for this essay
Leaving your house for the first time in a week because you’re all out of groceries - studying has been so time-consuming, you ran out of the necessities
Keeping the window open overnight and waking up cold, grateful for the hoodie you pull on first thing after waking up
Your room is just you, your books and your potential
Anyway I just saw a couple posts about struggling with online school, so here's a few tips that help me with doing long stints of mental work while inside and on no clear schedule:
- have a set end time. It's doesn't matter how long you've worked, after a certain hour, let that be your bedtime. Scroll mindlessly, take a shower, play a phone game, watch a movie, or just go to bed.
- Timers are your friend. If you find yourself procrastinating by scrolling a lot, the Forest App is REALLY your friend. Doing short stints of work (thirty minutes or so) with shorter stints of letting yourself be distracted helps keep the feelings of overwhelming doom at bay.
- find out what kind of mental exhaustion and frustration you can muscle through, and what kind you can't. Sometimes your brain needs to be held on task, and sometimes it needs food or a moment to think about something else.
- make some time to go outside. Feel a leaf. Stick your hands in the mud. Even if the weather is gross, even if outside isn't your thing, it's grounding, I promise.
- personally, it really helps me to have a mindless phone game to play for a bit after the 'end of day' hour is up. It's enough mental stimulation to distract me from everything I 'should' be doing, but brainless enough that it's actually restful. Also, those games are made to stimulate happy chemicals, and those can't hurt, can they?
Not pictured: me gremlin hunching over my work while cross-legged and singing along to my music.
During my Norwegian studies, I’ve noticed this tiny hiccup in my learning: if, for example, I see that something says, “Jeg ser en gutt” I almost automatically translate it to “I am a boy” instead of “I see a boy”. For background, I am fluent in Spanish and the verb ser in Spanish means “to be”, so I always have to mentally correct myself! No biggie, I just thought it was a funny crossover between two languages that have absolutely nothing in common! It’s a small world! :)
