i'm learning japanese n there's nothing more boring than having to memorise the 3 characters sets... if anyone has any advice on memorising skills and/or specifically memorising those character sets i'm a taker 😭

today marks my first attempt at doing actual japanese reading practice. i decided i'd learn by reading the entirety of bsd's main manga, along with the other ones and novels later (i got into bsd by watching the anime with a friend, please don't beat me up) i actually started reading it translated a month ago, before i got the sudden motivation to lock in and actually learn japanese for real this time. so i have context for like 15 chapters or so i managed to read 8 pages of the first volume, with the help of yomitan for all the vocabulary i'm missing. the first page took me 15 minutes LMAO it was the omakes where they're talking about christianity and Dazai role playing, saying his bandages are a gift from god

overall it wasn't that bad i think, i understood the overall meanings i believe. i still have troubles assimilating the grammar very well, especially with some helper verbs and particules. but i also refrain myself from trying to translate what i'm reading because i feel like it just makes things harder and it kinda defeats the point too? idk atleast i feel like i assimilated some words i've looked up with yomitan...like... 自殺．．．入水．．．ありがとう太宰さん．．． also this is maybe just me going crazy, but while reading i felt like Dazai and Kunikida have a different "type of speech" i'm not sure how to explain this but the way Dazai's speech is structured feels more "easy going" (lots of よs ねs in there, i suppose) while Kunikida's feels more "harse" (?) "tense" (?) ??? this is probably only because he's yelling all the time in the first pages though. but that was the overall vibes i was getting while reading the kanas as if it were real dialogues

I just figured I’d let you guys know, I’ve started learning to read Japanese, and I’m learning the katakana alphabet. I’m learning to read roughly 1 column every 2-3 days. It’s a cool language to learn and I’m ashamed that I never really got round to starting earlier.

i think i’ll start posting about my progress with learning Japanese so: i’ve officially finished learning hiragana! i can read, write, and pronounce them all now - tho my r’s still need work. and i’m now learning the first few kanji radicals then will move on to katakana. it’s been really fun!! i know how to write my name in all three systems also, love that for me.

I have to do at least 3 hours of school work a day. Mostly just math. -_-' I don't do it all in one sitting. When I'm not doing school work, I have house work to do. I try to spend time with my son during the day as well. I prefer to work in a school setting than at home. At school all I have to do is school work, but as home I have other things I could be doing. So it's hard to stay focused. I hope I can find a balance and schedule everything eventually. Maybe when my son starts school? ^-^' 1 lesson / chapter from each book and / or website shouldn't take up too much time...right? I've tried to stop studying Japanese and it was kind of hard. To just quit something you're passionate about. Something you've been doing for 2 years. I really need to focus on school work. I am SO ready to get this over with!
