Althea McNish (British, born Trinidad, May 15, 1924 - April 6, 2020), was a textile designer who rose to prominence in London with her bright and tropica...

This one about McNish shows off her textile designs. The warm orange colors she used, drawn from her native Trinidad, left me feeling a little bit more cheerful on this chilly day. She spoke of her “tropical eye” and you can see it at work.
Buyout fund manager Advent is exploring a sale of Singapore-based The Learning Lab, Singapore after two failed attempts earlier.
Rippledot Capital has been appointed the sell-side advisor.
Interesting news.
$400m USD is about $510m SGD. If we apply a generous P/S of 10 and a P/E of 20 for valuation, we are looking at annual revenue of $51m and net profit of $25m, assuming they have close to 100% ownership.
I recall reports of them failing to sell at $677m SGD previously, so I guess they have decided to reduce the multiples to try to clear the market, i.e. they have high intentions of selling and exiting the business.
Would you pay $510m for a tuition business with $25m net profit and maybe 10% YoY growth today?
That is 5% ROI, lower than the SPY and only slightly higher than the current 10Y treasury yield at 4.3%. Not me personally, even if this is one of the category's market leaders we are talking about with substantial brand equity and somewhat VRIN competitive advantages (but very possible for a well-resourced competitor to emulate) including tangible and intangible assets such as their best-in-market curriculum, curriculum and teaching staff, large number of existing students and networks, etc.
I made another interactive for the Ernie Davis Learning Lab today. We had a wall from a previous exhibit that I covered with black contact paper. I added lines to mark inches and feet and an arrow showing how tall Ernie Davis was (6' 2"). People can see how tall they are in comparison and put a sticker on the wall with their height. I only have dark blue stickers, so they don't show up too well. (I added one with my height after I took the picture.) But they'll have to do for now since we're hosting a family day tomorrow. I'll find some brighter stickers next week.
I worked on the CCHS Learning Lab featuring Ernie Davis interactives today. They include a deck of sports trivia cards; instructions on making a paper football and mini goalposts to try it out; and a list of body ratios (length of foot is equal to length of forearm, etc.) with a tape measure.
