So I am 100% horrible with names. I was an HR assistant at my last job, and I had to ask the one girl I actually knew who people were when I had to talk to them. Like I am bad with names.
Okay so I got this job with state agency great amazing job. But I end up taking maternity leave about 9 months after I started. I can't remember anyonex name. Get back And go okay I'm one of the few people actually here everyday so I should know every one's name. They only come in once a month or once a week, but I can do this.
I'm starting with the new hires because they have to be here all the time, until they finish training, but that's like 6 months. And a new guys starts, Let's call him Alex. Very nice guy I say his name like 20 times on day one. (I'm the one who has to get my own office and desk supplies so I see him like three times that day, and every sentence I say his name, so I remember it.)
For a solid month 2 to 3 times a day I say hi Alex.
On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving I say good night Alex. He makes a little face. I go Oh my god I've been getting your name right haven't I?
He goes no I'm Greg.
OH my God I'm so sorry.
It's okay it was funny. We do kind of look alike.
I am now mortified and used to say hello to either of them.
So I learned one simple trick to getting better tips at Starbucks. After you find out their name, simply say “It’s nice to meet you, [their name].” Most likely they will be thrilled that you remembered their name even though they just told you, and they’ll be thrown for a little loop and you’re more likely to get $1 instead of pocket change. Same goes if you learn their order and name, more so if you can make them laugh or smile.
Also, weirdly enough, people are also less likely to tip well in a tip car that looks full. Either bury the bills in coins or have the ones deposited or put them in the cup by drive through (if you have one).
sees words on shirt assumes is nametag
New friendship level unlocked! :D
