Turns out I like being the person who lives alone in a small apartment. Turns out I like dancing in a tiny kitchen to a YouTube playlist while I hand wash the dishes. Turns out I like drinking coffee at 2 AM while I watch chick flicks and draw shitty caricatures. Turns out I like writing sad stories about being alone while learning to be independent. Turns out maybe I need fairy lights over my bed, but I can still sleep alone. Turns out maybe I need music to dance, but I can learn to make my own music. I never liked journeying alone, but it turns out I can be my own companion just fine.
I DONT WANT TO BE THE JEWEL I DONT WANT TO BE THE JEWEL I DONT WANTODHNEKWLDN
Hi, y'all!
Okay, so to put this up front, I am really new to talking about my transness. It's been hovering there in my mind for a long time, but I've never acknowledged it out loud, and now that I've got a place to express it, I'm afraid it's going to come gushing out like a firehose. I feel like a teenage girl who is starting puberty and is super excited about how her body is changing and about discovering who she really is and exploring her sexuality and feeling scared and excited and a little out of control, and I think that's probably reflected here more than I mean it to be. I think this blog will be a little cringey at times, and also probably more than a little "oooh, shiny!" the way that adolescents can be. I'll probably say some things that offend people that I really don't mean to offend, and sound hopelessly naive when I'm trying to sound worldly and wise.
Ugh. I'm way too old to be going through puberty again, but I guess that's what I get for letting fear hold me back for so long, right?
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it and that you'll say hi sometime!
Much love 💜
Jess
I think I’m almost ready to get my binder. I still haven’t found a proper “term” for my identity yet, but I can’t let that hold me back.
Friendship & Acceptance
For the past year and half or so I've been doing some deep soul searching, and I recently became comfortable with accepting that I fall somewhere under the Ace Umbrella. Specially, gray asexual. I then began fretting over having to come out, at least to certain friends because it would be too weird to know a part of myself and hide it from them. I worried they might hold my past against me, refuse to believe me, or be repulsed by it. I was afraid they'd tell me I was broken, a phrase I have repeated to myself for years. Well last night I screwed up my courage told my first friend. This person has been my close friend since freshman year of high school. And he laughed at me, told me I was a moron, because of course this doesn't change anything. He listened to me babble and assured me that this is valid and offered me any support I might need. I could hear the smile in his voice when he said "I bet you feel the most like you, you have ever felt before." It lifted such a weight from my shoulders and warmed a part of my soul. I feel so fucking lucky to have such an understanding friend. I'm going to be okay.
