@learnmercy queried: “i know you’re new, but we do things a little differently here.”
Emma knew Miguel was just trying to be nice, but something about his words just... well, it rubbed her the wrong way. Maybe it was just her self-consciousness getting the better of her, but she had also had a lovely run in with a blonde adult earlier today at the convenience store when she was filling up her orange Baby Bug with gas. He’d been really condescending towards her, getting worse when he saw her oxygen tank and cannula. She knew it was him just tripping over himself and being... older generation charming? AKA, really rude and intrusive. It just made her already scattered day just a little bit... worse.
Maybe she was just being on edge because it was her first week actually in school and she already apparently was part of some Capulet-and-Montague-level feud? Her father had moved here for a change of scenery and he’d also taken her doctor’s advice on having her take “extra-curricular activities” that would also coincide in mindfulness. Enter in Daniel Larusso and Miyagi-Do. Will Decody had reached out to Daniel after seeing his ad on Youtube and had no hands to press the SKIP ADS button. Apparently karate and the breathing techniques and mindfulness that came with it were something that would better her life (and would possibly help her make friends in a new city) but apparently he had signed her up to be smack-dab in the middle of Karate-o & Screwliet. Will Decody had polarized her before she had her first full week of school.
She should give Miguel the benefit of the doubt, out of all of the Cobra Kai that she’d had the pleasure of meeting (without them knowing she was the newest member of Miyagi-Do) they’d already commented on her tank. Sure, Miguel told them to knock it off, but she’d rather just ignore it and get on with her day rather than have someone White Knight her.
“Oh really? Is it somehow different than every quintessential high school movie in existence? The bullies bully, the outcasts outcast... and I am plopped down in the middle of it.” Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and shook her head. Don’t be a dick, Emma. “Please, enlighten me. Tell me what movie-level wisdom I need to know. Master Yoda me, or whatever pop culture reference you’d prefer. Tell me how this school stands out over the others, please. Because other than Karate, and a weird West Side Story Jets and Sharks vibe, it seems pretty lackluster to me.”
