Angélique Leclair existed in the liminal. Her ability to move between worlds could be concerning to the some. Though Doc's Drugstore allowed to simply be, without fear for a brief moment in time. Acutely aware of how she was perceived for being Asian first and then human. That was if people even did recognize her humanity. The world was unkind to her, though she desperately wanted to remain soft in spite of it all. Perhaps, it was naive of her. However, she would always try to treat others how she would like to be treated.
That tender ideal of hers led to this moment. “You'll have to sit still if you want this to hurt less, darling.” Her voice was soft but stern, the nickname tumbled easily from her lips. Nimble fingers went through the first aid kit, pulling out supplies as her brow was furrowed deep in concentration.

Angélique had not meant to fall asleep in her seat. The heiress had gone to battle with drowsiness and alas she had lost. Goodness knows how long she has been curled up like this until he found her. Some might consider her to be a heavy sleeper, though anyone would have awoken to this.
A drowsy, confused hum leaves her when he lifts her out of her seat. Bleary, sleep-filled eyes slowly blinking at him. Through heavy-lidded gaze, his face slowly becomes clearer to her. Lolling her head aside his shoulder, she softly asks: “What are you doing?” Perhaps, she has the survival instincts of a goldfish, considering the way she lays limply in his arms.
he saw no harm in showing her the ins and outs of a new game; there were far worse things he could be roping her into, after all. it's not like he was inviting her down to the tracks to gamble, right?
"don't worry, he reassures as he gives a deck of cards a shuffle, "it's pretty easy once you play a couple'a rounds."
a new game was no need for immediate concern. how different could be from the ones she played in one too many a parlour? it was perhaps a rather informal situation, though it would be good, mostly clean fun.
“but i always worry,” she earnestly admits, attentively staring at the cards. “i hope so, i do apologize for any mishaps that may occur.”
" sure. let's see how tomorrow goes, and if it really sucks, like so, so bad, we'll reconsider dying. " charles responds with a raised brow, a smirk tucked into the corner of his lip. he moves the cloth from angelique's forehead to her one cheek, and then to the other, determined that the red - heat in her skin cools back to her more usual color. as he does this, with his other hand, he searches around for the dirty clothes she'd abandoned ( entirely familiar with his love's rules about street clothes in and around the bed ) and tosses them towards the hamper, where they thump against the rim, then slink the rest of the way in.
" before that, though . . . how 'bout i get a showing going for you, so you can clean up and get comfortable? how's that sound? "
“wake me up at midnight so i can get a head start.” angélique utters with the utmost sincerity, eyes suddenly wide. the rag must be taking off some of the makeup and sunscreen that had not come off when she had wept. possibly no amount of detergent and makeup remover could lift those new stains. ( boy, she really needs to invest in some darker coloured washcloths. ) the ghost of a smile hints at her lips when he throws her outside clothes into the receptacle with ease. not everyone could understand her and her peculiarities ---- but he does, and he loves her for all she is and is not.
“ so i might drown myself in there too? you really are the best, babe. ”
Henry had lost his parents young as well, a thing they had bonded over early on; but Henry did have a role model in parenting in his Aunt Jeanie. If he could be even half as good a parent as she had been to him, he'd be a great dad. But Henry always kind of had a 'dad' energy about him anyway.
"The spare room can easily turn into a nursery. Though I wouldn't be against getting a bigger place if you want." He paused then, thinking about their future kid and sharing a home. "Will you marry me?" The words from his heart and out of his mouth before he even stopped to think about it.
Like him, she had her own parental figure or two. Her adoptive father, Raoul Leclair, had done his damn best to ensure her the best life possible. On the other hand, her governess Marie was more an aunt than mother. Nevertheless, there was no true guide to being the perfect parent—but she would try.
“That's true. Though, are you certain we could afford a bigger place? Babies are already expensive on their own.” She prattled on. Deep in thought, Angélique was doing some mental math. His query initially did not register her in mind. Only after a beat did she understand the weight of his words. “You want to marry me?”
Shifting from one foot to another, she patiently awaited his response to her bold query. There was no denying how forward she could be, a trait that could be unnerving to some. “Yes, really.” Angélique softly affirmed with a nod. Her heart hammered in her chest whilst she watched him stumble over his words. “Do you want to kiss me? A simple yes or no will suffice.” Batting her brown doe eyes at him, she attempted to gauge his reaction. “I do understand if you do not wish to and would not take offence.”

If there ever was a man that had endless patience, it was Henry Quinn, and Angélique's comfort always came first. It was just sex, and he wasn't a hound dog like some men, and waiting had only made their union all the more sweet when it did finally happen. It was the right thing to do, so there had never been any doubts in Henry's mind.
However, why he had never stopped to think that their continuous bouts of bareback would lead to pregnancy, he didn't know. He had assumed it was fine, another thing he didn't question.
"Yeah, I know, but it's kinda exciting, isn't it? We're financially secure, we're old enough, and we love each other, what more could a kid want?" Henry, who actually had all the makings of a father, was now starting to feel the fluttering of nervous butterflies in his stomach; not out of fear, but because it was real, this was happening.
Patient was the best way to describe him. Even in the early days of knowing each other carnally, he never made her feel embarrassed for her lack of experience. Never once did she ever feel pressured or rushed by him. Such tenderness was deeply cherished by her, only making her fall harder for him.
Diligent in taking her medication, including birth control, it was not user error that had led to this. There was always a slight risk of pregnancy of the smallest percentage for someone on the pill. That tiny possible lack of effectiveness just so happened to them.
“I suppose it is exciting, it's a whole new world. We'll have find the space to make a little nursery.” Being the worrywart she was, there was much research to be done. Having lost her parents so young, Angélique did not have a blueprint to refer to. Gripping a little tighter onto him, she rested her head on his shoulder.

"i've got a new fall out boy record calling our names to be spun. it gives me an excuse to finally use my new record player.
“oh, then spin it we shall. what kind of record player is it? an audio technica?”
Henry couldn't help but smirk. They'd had a slow and careful start, Henry gave her all the time she needed until she was ready to have sex, months and months, actually. But when they started it was hard for them keep their hands off each other. And it was more intense than any other relationship Henry had ever had because he was in love before they started making it.
"I can't help myself, you're too damn hot." He leaned over and kissed her cheek. "Yeah, you do have that dramatic chipmunk look, but that's part of your charm." He teased, and his other hand came to rest on her stomach. "Becoming a parent is a scary thing, sure, but it's also pretty amazing. I've always wanted to be a dad, and I think I'm a pretty stable and reliable guy. I love you, we can do this, and our baby is gonna be soooo good looking."
There was a period of relative chasteness between the two for some time. Inexperienced as Angélique had been, she never felt pressured by him during the months of celibacy. When she finally was ready to go further with him, Henry had still been patient with her. The intensity felt with him was an entire new world that presented itself to her. Though, she had been in love with him long before they had entered that new phase.
“Dramatic chipmunk is a new one, never heard that before. I mean it worked—maybe, a little too well because look at us now.” As stressed and anxious as she was, a small smile found its way upon her lips. Glancing down at his hand, she cupped one her own over his. “We've talked about kids before, but it's a little different when it's unplanned. I love you, but let's not get too ahead of ourselves yet. We've still got eight months to go.”

it's a no - brainer, and charles brushes it off ---- " of course i like you, silly. " elbows - deep in the dinner dishes, he reaches for another handful of cutlery and plunges it into the sink, scrubbing over them willy - nilly as he nods his head absently along to the radio playing in the background. it takes charles a second ---- distractions pushing aside in his mind ( food bank donation sorting night tomorrow, and before that he said he'd meet so - and - so, and then he needs to take an hour or so call into cps to argue about his sister again, as he does every week or so . . . ) until what angelique had really been asking comes clear. he stops scrubbing, and turns to regard her, holding her in a mis - matched gaze. " wait, what do you mean by asking that? of course i like you. did i ---- is there somethin' that happened that's making you doubt that? "
a positive response, though angélique is unsure if the weight of her words have truly carried. “ oh ---- okay. ” used to not being taken seriously, she busies herself with cleaning down the dining room table. silly, the word echoes in her mind ---- she's always been a silly girl to others. wise past her years yet too childish, she remains in a constant state of flux. never quite at home regardless of where she goes, forever bound to be a stranger is she. his love has never been doubted by her, though there she still feels unlovable at times. she does not look up at him, focused on the chore at hand. “ you can love someone, but not like them and vice versa. nothing happened, i was simply wondering. ” her biological father is loved, but he is far from being liked.

Henry was still holding the pregnancy test stick, looking down at the two lines that indicated positive. "Wow," He said, his voice calm, but there was a touch of wonderment there. "To be fair, there were times when we weren't exactly careful." Many times, in fact. "We shouldn't be surprised, but here we are."
He laid the test on the coffee table then sat back and put an arm around her on the couch. "You look terrified, there's no need to be. Whatever you want to do I'll support you all the way. If you're not ready for this I understand, and if you are, well, then I guess I better learn how to change diapers." He gave her one of his soft, kind smiles, "But you don't need to be scared, at least not of my reaction."
It was far too early on for her to begin to show. However, there had been signs. What had previously be written off as anxiety had turned out to be morning sickness. “Yes, wow.” Angélique repeated, trying to gauge his reaction. “It's actually difficult to remember when we've been careful.”
Reaching into her pocket, she grabbed four more positive pregnancy tests from various different brands and mechanically placed them on the table. Of no fault of his own, she momentarily tensed up before leaning into him. “I always look terrified, though.” It was true, her resting face had frequently caused concern from others. “I want this, but I'm so scared.”

It took a few seconds for her to do the mental math before she answered: “A little more than a month or so.” Her words were softer than usual, carefully thought out by her. Big brown eyes peered up at him, so glossy that it appeared that Angélique was on the verge of the tears. Working up the courage to tell him the abrupt news had taken a little time. Though, she could no longer avoid the inevitable and was duty bound to divulge her growing secret.
