Nicola bit her lip, looking down at her feet as he toe traced shapes lightly in the dirt. They did, of course they did. But she didn’t know how to admit it. Nicola had never allowed herself to be vulnerable, she’d never given herself up to someone before. Their relationship was supposed to be nothing more than nights between the sheets. She wasn’t prepared for anything else. “They weren’t supposed to mean anything,” she finally admitted, looking nervously up to meet Seamus’. “That was the deal, didn’t you forget?” She felt a lump entering her throat, knowing she was digging herself into a hole. This was going to push him away, and it would only be a matter of moments before she regretted it, but she couldn’t bring herself to be vulnerable when it came to him. She simply didn’t know how. “I’m sorry.”
