she      looked      safe                  though   the   child’s   perceived   safety   did   little   to   make   the   image   any   less   troubling   .   toddling   around   on   her   father’s   porch   happy   as   could   be   ,      JUDITH      GRIMES      was   being   watched   over   by   ,   eric   assumed   ,   the   absolute      l a s t      person   rick   would   have   assigned   to   the   job   . 

a   moments   pause   as   he   allowed   himself   to   settle   ,   a   mixture   of   anger      &&      fear   pushed   to   the   back   of   his   mind   as   a   smile   slipped   into   place   .   not      overly   friendly      ,   but   enough   to   show   that   he   hadn’t   come   to   cause   a   scene   .   it   would   be   an      o f f e r      ,   not   a      DEMAND      .
