so what’s the text that the hermeneutics essay is interpreting??

basically its interpreting the speculation and interpretation that goes on in psychology as an act of violence towards oppressed individuals because speculation creates "knowledge" through results and biased interpretations of data, and that knowledge is then seen as fact, which can be harmful. 

or at least, that's what i'm getting out of it

I think it all depends on social context—they could be considered people of color in one part of the world and white in another. (Like how Irish people used to be considered nonwhite in the US.) I don’t think there’s a definitive answer.
