Hi I know you're the Versace goddess, and I'm sure you've read maureen orth's book. Can you tell me what happened to David's dog Prints. Was the dog ever mentioned again in the book besides being seeing the day after Jeff's murder. Thank you.
Thanks for the compliment! Not quite sure I deserve it though, since I’m only someone who’s read the book and is fascinated by the case.
The last time Prints is mentioned in Orth’s book is when the caretaker of David’s apartment building, Jennifer Wiberg, goes to investigate his apartment after David’s coworkers report him missing. She calls Prints to her and waits in the stairwell as the police examine the body. No mention is made of what happens to Prints after that. The show does give Jennifer a line where she says that the dog is staying with her.
That’s probably not a satisfactory answer, so here’s some other dog related trivia from the book that you might be interested in:
1. Prints was a Dalmatian and his name probably came from the spots on his coat reminding David of fingerprints. Dalmatians supposedly have a bit of a reputation for being independent minded and hard to train. I don’t know how true that is,but that might explain the change in dog breed on the show.
2. Cunanan was actually pretty good with dogs and would walk his friends’ dogs for them if he was staying at their place. He was staying at David’s apartment and taking care of Prints before he got all murdery with Jeff.
3. Cunanan makes a groan-worthy “someday my Prints will come” joke in one of the many, many, many postcards he wrote to David over the course of their relationship.
4. Despite being fond of dogs, this didn’t stop Cunanan from being a petty asshole and intentionally hurting Prints. David was throwing a party with his boyfriend at the time, Robbie Davis. Robbie specifically asked that no one feed the hors d’oeuvres to Prints. Cunanan gave an entire plate to the dog, who ate them and then threw up.
5. Lee Miglin had a dog named Honey, who wasn’t heard barking on the night of Lee’s death. This is one of the main reasons for the theory that Lee knew Cunanan, since Honey would often bark at strangers. Marilyn was mad at Honey after Lee’s death for not barking that night. (Oh, and since I didn’t make it clear, Cunanan did not hurt Honey.)
