MyriadMuzik.com #Repost from @jazz_kaleidoscope No need of introduction to Billy Cobham. Lord of the golden era of jazz-rock, his high energy drumming has motivated countless drummer vocations. Born in Panama in 1944, Cobham moved to New York as a child, pursued music education, played drums while in the military and started his professional career in the 60's playing with Horace Silver, Stanley Turrentine or George Benson. Like many of his generation, Cobham worked with Miles Davis then with John McLaughlin on the Mahavishnu Orchestra before recording his first album as a leader: "Spectrum". Cobham went on to record dozens of albums as a sideman or co-leader. His second solo recording was "Crosswinds" in 1974 which today's cut is from, "A sound portrait" from the Spanish Moss suite with: #billycobham on drums, #johnabercrombie on guitar, #michaelbrecker on woodwinds, #randybrecker on trumpet, #garnettbrown on trombone, #georgeduke on keyboards, #leepastora on percussion and #johnwilliams on bass. #drums
