My friend finally got me into Griftlands, and I’m just so fond of Leesha! Not sure why I zeroed in on her, but here’s some quick doodles of her!

1. Arlen Bales "The Painted Man" (former Messanger / The Deliever). The Krasians call him Par'chin, which means "brave outsider". In The Core, the Alagai Ka (Demon Consort) calls Arlen "The Explorer".

4. Ahmann Jardir - "Shar'Dama Ka", title analog to The Deliever, it means "First Warrior Cleric" (Sharum Ka, "First Warrior'). In The Core, the Alagai Ka calls Ahmann Jardir "The Heir".

introducing my oc, Leesha!! she’s an oc I’ve been developing for a little bit now, and I hope you’ll be able to love her like I do!

this is a little blurb kind of her reminiscing and giving a summary of her life. she grew up in Aquila and as you’ll read, she didn’t quite agree with the lifestyle there.

When you are labeled as golden, gilded, and gifted there’s not much you can do but to meet these titles and expectations. Words become so heavy it’s all you can think about, the sword in your hand becoming weightless compared to it. Your shoulders so stiff it feels unnatural to relax them.

That’s what I was given elaborate, shiny sundry and lofty titles that I should aspire to be. Besides that there was only the gods and their petty immortal games. You would be considered weird or crazy if that wasn’t your end goal consistently. Every book or coach seeming to only know about things related to them.

But when I saw a glimpse of the world outside, I was starstruck. To overhear stories of knights and dragons, revolution against shadow, and wizards of varying degrees enrolled in a school called Ravenwood. It felt like all this fame and valor was actually such a small part in a much bigger world. The spiral was actually real, and not a side mention in a book.

My dreams soon became filled with whimsy and fantasy. Fairies leading me along a floating rune bridge into a dark forest where an evil dragon lay, samurai defending civilians against an evil organization, and a classroom where we were peers not competition. It soon became clear that I didn’t want to be in Aquila anymore. The dreams slowly turning into ambition and jealousy.

Eventually I was able to leave, in the dead of night. When I stepped beyond the door I felt like I could finally breathe. I could shrug off the exquisite, golden armor that I always detested. No longer did I have to hear boasts about how someone beat the immortal games, or about how they have the best battle stance. I could start anew, as a wizard, as a classmate.

Maybe I was naive back then, thinking that I would enjoy this life that I made for myself. That the same labels I was running away from would just come right back to me in different clothing. The same lofty ideals that I hated so much would be thrusted upon me just in a different tongue.

The worst part was it took me far longer to realize that. Everything that I stood against back then happened anyways. I’m not sure how and why it took me so long to notice it. Maybe it was the constant state of panic that was induced, the next world over being threatened with tall shadows needing my light to banish them. Or it could’ve been my wanderlust and curiosity for things outside of my home world.

Either way it’s been a complicated journey to where I am now. My thoughts and feelings constantly changing like the push and pull of gold and silver. But I never gave up my one belief. The one thing that no matter where I went people seemed to differ on.

Help those in need, because simply, it’s the right thing to do.

Si lo pensaba detenidamente, parecía como si siempre lo hubiera sabido, pues aunque sentía simpatía y cierto afecto por sus hermanos mayores, Phanie era más especial para él. ¿O podría ser que Phanie también fuera una Potter? ¡Imposible! ¿Qué tan probable podía ser eso? A diferencia de Alice, que solo se parecía a su madre y Shawn que solo se parecía a su padre, Phanie tenía facciones de ambos. Entró a un largo callejón, si no mal recordaba, ese era el correcto. Caminó lentamente mientras miraba los alrededores, basureros, charcos de fluidos misteriosos, indigentes tumbados en el suelo. “Encantador” pensó, no estaba acostumbrado a ese tipo de lugares pero desde que el incidente de Felicia se había salido de control, era importante esconderla en un lugar en donde nunca podrían encontrarla. Llegó hasta el final del callejón, tocó la sucia pared de ladrillos con su varita y esperó los segundos necesarios para que la rubia pudiera asegurarse que se trataba de él.

Leesha has the power to turn into any felid (great and small cats). Mac can turn into canids. That's about it. There is a buffer around their bodies that shift with them (so most clothes will shift with and be there on the return, but shoes or ball gowns and puffy coats are a no) and they turn into the normal size for the animal that they shift to. It does take energy to shift, but about the same as walking a short distance so it's usually not noticeable, unless you do it a lot.

Interesting! Adapting these gifts into the SOLE universe is hard because if I were to write a shapeshifter, they would adhere to the rules outlined here. Not to mention the fact that Dr. Agau really isn’t a fan of animals.

But let’s say we ignore all that and go for hypothetical scenario!

If Agau were to ever dabble in this kind of thing, she might engineer them with traits that these animals have, adapted for humans. So, cats (and dogs? maybe?) can see in the dark: she would engineer Leesha (and Mac?) with the ability to see in the dark. Leesha would have enhanced hearing and agility and grace, while Mac has sensitive smell and increased stamina.

Hopefully that makes sense? These are more Tier Two designs on the tier system, for both of them.

im trying to be better about talking about my OCs so here’s the first small step!

i like to envision that Leesha and Colby don’t really so much participate in the events that take place in arc 4 (i have a different young wizard/oc that takes over). so arc 4 for them ends up being more of a vacation/beach episode vibe!
