Hot take alert!
Even as a leftist, I love watching the white supremacist insurrectionists lose their shit when they break the law and suffer the consequences (like ending up on the no fly list, or getting their right to vote taken away, etc.)
That doesn’t make me a hypocrit- I still want to abolish police and prisons, give felons the right to vote, and I still know that the concept of crime and punishment is fucked and laws are made up in the first place. Overthrow the government? Yes please!
But what’s funny to me is, leftists know what they’re risking when they protest or riot or generally fuck shit up. We know the consequences in our current system, and we know those consequences are bullshit, but we accept that. We know that police will use force and violence against us, we know our comrades will get arrested, we know that some people will have charges pressed against them. That’s why leftists black bloc and have street medics and set up bail funds, because we know what’s going to happen.
These idiots had little to no actual plan, failed miserably, and now they’re shocked that they’re facing legal consequences. They were talking about running over peaceful BLM protesters with their trucks, yet expected some kind of special treatment when they rush the capitol building openly brandishing weapons**. They want other people to “respect the law” so bad, but are mad that they face legal action for doing illegal shit.
I’m not saying I support imprisoning the proub doys, because I don’t support imprisoning anyone. All I’m saying is, when you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.
