I collect dolls (big shocker, I know) and am also a big disability advocate so of course my natural solution to one of my oldest Barbies having broken leg joints is to make her some mobility aids.

(Her leg joints are loose and do not work anymore, so her legs cannot hold her weight, she just flops over)

I made her a little Rollator with a removable cushion, along with some (very temporary) leg braces. She’ll be getting new braces soon.

I’m very pleased with how it turned out! And it works perfectly for her to help her stand up on my shelf.

Getting new medical equipment made is so wild because what do you mean you’re deciding what position my body will be in for the next two years. Like I got my new braces and they didn’t give me as much bend in my knees as I had before which doesn’t seem like that big of a deal. I didn’t consider it until I put the new set on and it’s noticeably harder to get up stairs and stand up and drive all this shit. Like my life is noticeably different because of a couple degrees of flexibility. And some guy just gets to make those changes? Like my prosthetist gets to just choose for me what position I will stand in for kinda ever? Because after this set I go back and he decides what I will look like for the next two years after that and it just keeps going and going.

And it’s fine like it’s not that big of a deal. I need the braces but it’s just strange for me to think about.
