she tries to take lexa’s coat with her when she leaves.  she sneaks into her room, where he will not go, and takes it from her wardrobe.

he wouldn’t wear it, he has his own, but that doesn’t mean she gets to have it.

“give it back,” he says, and there is something in him that delights at how her eyes widen at his tone.

as if she thought she could get away with it. as if he doesn’t have handfuls upon handfuls of servants and guards at his disposal. as if his eyes and ears are not aware of everything going on in every nook and cranny of his tower. as if she could just walk into lexa’s room, take her things, and he’d not know about it.

“aden,” as if she has the right, as if lexa isn’t dead because of her.

“give it to me, or i’ll take it. it’s up to you.”

the spring sun is a wane weak light shining down through the clouds that offers no light at all, no warmth. he wonders if he’ll ever feel warm again, or if the chill is just another one of those things he’ll have to bring himself to grow accustomed to. the shoulder guard, not hers, not yet, but rather a temporary one fit to his own slim shoulders, is a heavy dragging weight on his left side. the sash is a bright red beacon. the people of polis are watching them, watching their hushed desperate bickering; all he wants to do is retreat back indoors away from their sight. away from their pity.

“give me the coat, clarke.”

lexa is lamenting in the back of his mind, in the pit of his stomach, to just let her keep it. she drowns him in pity, in empathy. in compassion.

she might be in his head, but she doesn’t control him. his anger, his righteousness, his -perhaps- pettiness, win out.

in the end, he has to wrench it from her grip. n the end,  he turns away with it cradled to his chest before he catches sight of her crying. before she catches him crying.

“aden, please.” she calls to him, breaking decorum, always always breaking the rules. there is blood in his mouth. he will not cry. he will not give it back. lexa was his. the coat is his. she doesn’t get to take this from him too.

Big Tol Aden. Because reasons I have a lot of feelings right now.

Aden being so tol, Lexa’s coat is just a jacket to him.

Aden so tol, the sash doesn’t even glide or touch the floor while he’s walking.

Aden so big, but is gentle and kind and teaches his duckies that love isn’t weakness.

Legacy!verse again: Why am I imagining a parallel bowing scene from Clarke & Lexa to Aden & Clarke?

LIKE CLARKE BOWS TO ADEN

listen alright. clarke bows to him a few times within her life. 

once, when he becomes heda. aden, in a too big coat on a too big throne, wearing sloppy warpaint, she bows before him as ambassador of the thirteenth clan and swears to get her people back under control.

again, when they are both older. stress has long since darkened the skin below his eyes to a sickly blue-purple. clarke, ambassador, wanheda, having spent years training both physically and academically to better serve her people. clarke, commander of death, ruthless and savage with a blade. aden, heda, with a healing arrow wound in his shoulder. except, she doesn’t bow so much as kneel and touch her forehead to the toes of adens boots. “i swear to treat your needs and goals as my own, and protect you with my life,” she says. he reaches out, and she ignores how his hand trembles before it settles atop her head. “thank you, clarke.” he says, and she knows it isn’t just him doing the speaking. 

a third time. the both of them proper adults. titus long since dead. the new nightbloods in need of a guiding hand now that things are picking up and aden doesn’t have the time, now that their various tutors aren’t enough. so again, clarke bows to aden. she takes her formal flamekeeper oaths. swearing to protect adens ducklings the same way she protects aden, vowing to protect lexa’s legacy, his legacy. their legacy. so she kneels, and aden offers her his hand much the same way she offered lexa hers all those long long years ago.

Do you think in the legacy!verse Aden would also get tattoos as a teenager? What do you think he'd get?

Oh yeah definitely!

As far as we have seen everyone of Trikru has their specific tattoos that identify their clan, just like Azgeda have their scars. So I guess that’s a given, as soon as the person has something they want to express (or find a tribal that would look badass on their face, who knows).

So maybe Aden would get his first one as soon as the conclave and the settlement into his position is over.

Lexa honored her fellow nightbloods after the Conclave with her back tattoo. An experience like that is not only unique, but also radical. Of course it is tradition and they were prepared for it for years, but having to fight to death with other kids, some smaller and younger than yourself, kids you grew up with and spend all your time with, who maybe became your family because you were taken to Polis to fulfill your ‘blood given destiny’ at such a young age, it is something that marks you.

So I feel like the conclave is a common reason for a first tattoo for new commanders, so for Aden too. 

And also, Lexa. 

I feel like he would get something for Lexa - his mentor who was strong and wise, but also gentle and patient and who believed in him. I feel like he would feel the need to honor his fellow incarnation and beloved heda and friend in a more special way than the other commanders did for their predecessors.

I like to think that he would ask Clarke to help him, to find or create a design that is right for Lexa, that shows everything she meant to both of them.
